Winter

Winter has arrived.  This is the road out of Lordos 1 - it looks like something from Gorillas in the Mist!  we have rain and rolling mists.  John is hoping the pool will get filled!  I was off to Mum's during a break in what had been really quite heavy rain.  I didn't want to let her down so left it until it was less stormy and then set off.

As I left Droushia and headed for Kathikas things did not improve, if anything it was wetter and foggier.  Visibility was not great.  Normally as I head down to the coast things get better but not today - the whole of the island seemed to be shrouded in a grey fug.

I did a few bits of shopping on my way to Mum's - just standard stuff in Cycleband/Grande/Ikoagora whatever it likes to be called now.  John will be happy that they now seem to have a steady supply of real ale so I pick up four Old Speckled Hen most weeks to keep him happy (he is easily pleased).

I arrived at Mum's to find her in good form.  She had the central heating on.  We have, after years and years, persuaded her to keep it on low for the most part of the day so that the house is kept warm (and dried out).  She doesn't really understand the benefit of this when she may not be in the house herself but a recent display of internal mould has indicated that some of the rooms in her house are too cold and damp to cope - this has been reinforced by the fact that she is having to empty the dehumidifier almost daily.

Mum had chosen to go to Santa Marina in Coral Bay for lunch today.  It was a rather grim ride there - wet and windy but inside the place was lovely and warm.  It is nice in there - all very clean and the staff are very accommodating as we both asked for small meals and were given small meals which came in at less than 6 euros each.  It may not have been my choice but as long as Mum is happy then that is fine by me.  She seems happier since decisions were made about her driving which I had thought would be more difficult for her to accept.  In fact had it not been for the fact that the weather was awful and it was barely daylight I would have stayed longer but I took her home via Paps where she picked up a couple of bits and pieces and then decided I should make my way back to Droushia.

It doesn't matter what the weather the sea is always fascinating.  I stopped at Sea You's to take a quick snap of the breakers as they crashed into the beach.  Over to the right there were a few hardy souls trying to body board - or maybe surf - but had crashed and burned!

It was a fairly empty road all the way back to Droushia.  On my return John and I settled down to an evening watching the remainder of Series One of Succession interspersed with a supper of the leftover Carbonara.  Perfect!

It was the coldest night of the Winter so far but we are now used to whatever the island throws at us and as long as we are warm and fed and together we are happy.
