11th February

The is the carnage that I cause when I cook and this was only making a sticky toffee pudding for tomorrow!  We had looked through the freezer contents in order to make our weekly menu list and I have had dates in there for ages., kindly given to us by our neighbour Galatia.  The only thing I know to make with them is sticky toffee pudding so today was the day.

I cheated a bit because I managed to find a can of Cypriot Caramel Sauce in Paps in Polis - it turned out to be pretty much like dulce de leche but at a fraction of the price.  You can find it hidden amongst the tins of evaporated and condensed milk.  This recipe asked for the sauce to be smeared over the top and then grilled so it caramelised - then you used some that was thinned down to pour over.  I hope Mum will like it - she claims to only ever have puddings here or when we go to the Farmyard.

We dropped a rug off at the cat feeding station in Droushia.  There are some lovely feral cats there - the grey one in particular is one of my favourites.  I put the rug down and I had taken some treats with me so fed the cats that were around but had to put them on a nice clean stone as they didn't seem to like to rummage around on the ground for them!

It being Saturday John settled down to watch the football.  The Mighty Blades put in a good performance for once and secured a 3-0 win over Swansea so John was a happy chappy.  We had pasta down for tonight.  There was some halloumi in the fridge that needed eating along with some herby bacon stuff that John had bought when he was looking for pepperoni so we had that in a sort of carbonara sauce and it was delicious.  I am not a great lover of too much pasta but have to admit I could eat that again.

We had planned to settle down and watch a new series but I kept falling asleep and then I realised that we weren't watching the right one anyway!
