I woke this morning feeling well under par. I have managed to avoid any lurgy quite successfully for some time but sadly no longer - I have the cold thing that is going around so am full of snot and feel like I have been hit with a baseball bat. This is not good particularly as Mum is coming up for lunch. We will have to distance ourselves because I don't want her to catch anything.
The weather has changed as forecast - much less settled and a lot colder. We had expected storms today but although it was pretty black all around and we had some little showers we managed to avoid anything too awful although there was a huge hail storm later in the night.
Boris has picked up after his trip to the vets but unfortunately neither Charlie nor Minnie seem to be themselves. Charlie is lethargic, quiet and not eating anything like the amount of food we would expect him to. We cannot be sure if it is his teeth or whether he has consumed something that disagrees with him.
Minnie has been retching like she has something stuck in her throat and isn't eating much either and we are very concerned that it is her pancreatitis which has returned and which we may not be able to stave off a second time. We are keeping an eye on her and on Charlie and will take them off to the vets for a check over. John always says that we tend to panic, he is right because they are our babies but I think we know when they are out of sorts and not behaving as they would do normally. If they are no better tomorrow then they will definitely be going to the vets.
So Mum arrived safe and sound - I am really not sure how she will cope when she actually does relinquish the car which is in about a month's time - she talks about it quite happily but I feel the reality will be a different story.
We had the Shepherd's/Cumberland Pie with carrots, green beans and peas and then I had made an orange bread and butter pudding which Mum declared to be preferable to the Bailey's one I had made the other week. I am glad she tells me - it is better for everyone if I cook what people want to eat. She ate a good meal and poured a ton of cream on her pudding which always makes me smile. She was sensible enough to leave whilst the light was good and there was no rain. She said she had sunshine all the way home but once home could see that there had been rain there at some point whilst she was with us. I saw that a year ago today we had snow so bad weather in February is not unusual. There was wall to wall FA Cup football on today and the Mighty Blades were being featured on the BBC in their game against Wrexham. By the time that one came on I was just a bit footballed out although to be fair it was a pretty exciting game with everything thrown in including a Hollywood Star! I busied myself with the Droushia Art/Photographic Challenge and then reading various articles on tintyweb about decluttering and 'styling'. Mum on the other hand was watching the game and texting John periodically as the game unfolded. Let's just say that the Mighty Blades were a Gnats Knacker from going out of the cup and would have deserved to have done so but they managed to get a very last minute equaliser.
We did light the fire more for the cosy look than anything else although we both admitted that it is very difficult not to stand in front of it and warm our posteriors!Boo had taken up poll position on the rug and looked much more relaxed and comfortable than he had been - he still has some funny breathing and we are expecting that he may have to have some teeth removed if he gets an infection again.
We started to get some bad weather before we went to bed. I was feeling full of cold and was pretty glad that we didn't have much in the diary for tomorrow. I am supposed to be seeing the doctor but don't think he or anyone else will appreciate me pitching up with a cold and to be fair it can wait. I have stopped taking the pain killers he prescribed after the five days he told me to take them and so I will be able to report back as to whether there has been any lasting improvement. I think there has to my arms but not to the back of my shoulder which is an old issue from when I had a head-on car accident 30-odd years ago. Not my fault may I add - some numpty decided to overtake a line of vehicles when there wasn't enough room to do so and ended up hitting me. I had managed to bring my car to a halt so the impact wasn't as bad as it could have been but bad enough all the same.
