Valentine's Day

Today is Valentine's Day.  We had not expected to share our romantic morning with two guys from CYTA.  We had no idea they were due to come but come they did just before John was going out on his bike with the boys.  We had had an issue with our line for ages - the internet was unstable.  We have had engineers come a couple of times recently and fortunately today it was a guy who had been here previously who was aware of the situation.  They tried a number of new routers but none of them were any better than the one we had already and to be honest I didn't relish having to make changes to a new router so that everything worked as it did before because we have to clag the mesh system onto it.  The conclusion reached was that the current configuration could not deliver 30Mb in a stable fashion so we have been reigned back to 20Mb and have our names down for fibre optic when it becomes available which, apparently, will not be this year.  Deep Joy!

John eventually managed to get out on his bike - I noticed he had left his phone at home so chased off after him in the car and caught up with him at the coffee shop in Arodes.  I handed over the phone and then went down to Polis to do a bit of shopping before coming back and doing a bit of art.  The current challenge is a piece of art or a photograph which depicts old fashioned clothing or footwear.  This started out as a quick sketch but I quite liked it so it may get entered.

We had a quiet afternoon planned - it was lovely and warm in the conservatory so we sat in there and read.  We haven't really done that much since lock-down.  The cats like to come and join us.  We are concerned about Minnie again.  She is eating very little although she does come for something to eat.  That was the reason I had gone down to Polis - I had got some chicken, some beef and some baby food.  The baby food got a stiff ignoring by Minnie but Charlie was quite taken by it but then he will eat just about anything!  John says I panic about her too much but she is so weeny and still hasn't got her voice back. I rang the vet who said to keep an eye on her for a couple of days and take her back if there was no sign of improvement.

We were having a special Valentine's supper tonight - just the two of us.  John was doing the starter - he chose to have brie filled Yorkshire puddings, with either cranberry or lemon pickle.  I have to say I was a bit unsure when he sad what he had planned but actually the tasted lovely.  Who knew?  I particularly liked the chef-y addition of some coriander leaves!

I was in charge of the main course - what else could we have but local fillet steaks from Shuks?  The two steaks we took out were huge so after I had trimmed off any fat I didn't want we ended up with two smaller steaks each.  These were served with garden peas, breadcrumbed onion rings, paprika wedges and my mustard steak sauce.  OMG they were sooooooo delicious and we reckon they had only cost about 6 euros each.  So much nicer and cheaper than being out in an overpriced and chilly taverna!!!

Pudding was some left over sticky toffee pudding which was actually better second time round - it must have been because I totally forgot to take a photograph of it.

All in all a nice chilled day once the engineers had been and gone.
