A great day....

These are the wild poppies that have set up home just outside the back door.  They are beautiful, in the wrong place admittedly but they will be short lived and set seed which hopefully I can harvest and sew elsewhere.  John is itching to pull them up but knows better than to do that!

It was a glorious day today unlike last Sunday when we had monsoon conditions so we were going down to pick up Mum and bring her to the Farmyard for lunch then take her back.  This is now our new routine on a Sunday - either we pick her up or we take food down or go down and take her out.  It's a change for us but we don't want her to feel isolated without the car.

We had lost an hours' sleep during the night because of the clock change so I was grateful for a nice quiet start to the morning without getting food ready.  We set off around 11.00am to get Mum and by the time we got to Peyia I was beginning to regret my wardrobe choice!

We sorted out the few clocks that Mum cannot reach or cannot manage to change (the weather stations are always my job!) and then set off for Kathikas and our roast lunch.  The Sunday Carvery at the Farmyard never disappoints - there was carrot and coriander soup with croutons or bread and butter and/or the salad bar.  I had both the soup and the salad bar - only a little of each but I couldn't decide between them.  There was roast beef, pork, lamb, gammon and turkey on offer with all the trimmings and then a selection of sweets including Mum's favourite bread and butter pudding.  I don't know if Rachel and Savvas had the new pellet burner lit but it was a really comfortable warm temperature in there.  Mum ate well and seemed to enjoy it and we took her back to our for a cup of tea before I drove her back home.

I know she would have liked me to stay with her for a bit but as it was I didn't get home and settled until 5pm - at least now though it is lighter later.

On my way home I called into Sonny's to book a table for Mum's birthday - John has been given a draft chit for this lunch because there will be Mum, my sister Kaye, Lilian and me.  He deserves a reprieve every now and again as he spends every Sunday with Mum without complaint even though we do sometimes have to wiggle the plan to accommodate an SUFC Sunday kick-off.

Chris at Sonny's has known Mum for years and he duly noted that it was for her birthday so I hope he will make a bit of a fuss of her - she says she doesn't like it but secretly she is pleased as punch to get an extra bit of attention.

Anyway the random photograph of the fern is one which is in the entrance to Sonny's and which sits on a beautiful old table.  It caught my eye as I was leaving so took a photograph of it.  I like to see plants like that raised up off the ground and am looking for a small table or stand for one of the plants in the conservatory because it is lost sitting on the floor.  I feel a trawl through some of the charity shops and clearance shops coming on!

There is a mysterious construction going up next to the petrol station just outside Kathikas.  it wasn't there on Friday so must have started being erected yesterday.  We reckon it is going to be a little cafe attached to the petrol station - time will tell.

We had a quiet evening.  Having had a massive lunch we required very little for supper save for a couple of cheese biscuits, some brie and some of my lemon pickle and we watched a couple of episodes of a four parter we had seen advertised on Channel 5 - Desperate Measures - nothing too heavy duty as we were feeling a little tired.
