Eye, eye

This is my sister, she wont thank me for posting this photograph but today she was in and out having a cataract operation done with the other to follow shortly.

She had only gone to the opticians for a regular check-up and the next thing she knew she was sporting a rather unattractive piece of plastic on her visog.  She said something which I think we can all relate to - "when did I get old?"

It's the truth isn't it? and something we don't appreciate until we get older is that we still feel young inside but of course the world is for the young so they look at us like we are ancient when inside we are feel little older then they (save for the fact that to those of us the wrong side of 50 youngsters can seem to be complete aliens).

It is no fun getting old, Mum tells me that all the time and I get it and I guess getting old is no fun when you are on your own after over 60 years of marriage.  I am not sure if Mum remembered but today was the fifth anniversary of Dad's funeral - to me it seems like so much longer - I miss him every day and if I do then I wonder what it must be like for Mum?

The weather was odd today - very copticy (not that that is a word) but cloudy, windy, stormy and hazy.  We were going out to run some errands but not until Marianne had visited for a chat and a cup of tea and to drop off some freshly picked broccoli and a gift for my birthday which was very kind particularly as she has had a bad time of it recently as her beloved outdoor cat passed away under very unfortunate circumstances.

When she had been and gone we set off for Paphos as we needed to go to the bank and get a few things which are considerably cheaper down there than in Polis.  The landscape is stunning at the moment with all the almonds in blossom and we were surprised that as we approached the outskirts of Paphos that there had obviously been a heavy storm as the roads were running with rain water.

We went into Sklavenitis because we can park there and access the bank's ATM easily.  It is not a shop I am familiar with but just inside the door they display their offers and currently they have one of our favourite wines reduced so we stocked up for us and for Pete and Gail.

Upstairs in Sklavs they were having a change around of stock.  They have some fabulous homeware items and some is even cheaper than Jumbos and better quality.  I could have had a field day if I needed to buy some vases and ornaments and crockery etc but I don't so didn't.  What I did get was a plant and a pot to put it in for Gail because I could absolutely understand what she has been going through since Dot ingested something toxic.

Dot had been brought home this morning, weak and wobbly but home which was fantastic news and then I got a text to say that Gail had noticed that Dot was passing blood so she was rushed back to the vets and once again we had our fingers crossed for a favourable outcome.

We did our shopping in Sklavs and got almost everything we wanted at a reasonable price so headed back home.  We were planning an early night because Miss Minnie had been a right old pain throughout the night wanting attention or food or attention and food.

It looked like we were driving towards the storm which appeared to be making its way up the hill away from Paphos but actually although the skies were leadened we didn't encounter any rain which is a bit of a shame as the garden could do with some water.  Even though it had been quite indifferent we still managed to make our March daily target for electricity generation which is good news.

The other piece of good news was that Dot was back home again and sleeping peacefully after being given an injection by the vets and a bath by Gail.

Hopefully she will continue to improve.  We are of the opinion that they would not have allowed her home had her condition not been safe enough to do so.  Gail said she felt able to sample the wine from Sklavs this evening for medicinal purposes only as she wanted to get a good night's sleep and who can blame her.

We had our supper, the leftover spare ribs from Steni which I reheated in the pressure cooker and served with onion rings, coleslaw and some big fat wedges and it was lovely.  We too sampled the wine and although we intended to stay up later than usual failed miserably.

I am out with the girls tomorrow - the first time this year - let's hope the weather is ok as Kaponas can be a bit chilli.
