Ladies Lunch

It was a much cooler, cloudier and chillier day today.  It being Tuesday John and the boys went out for a ride whilst I got ready because for the first time in 2023 the Droushia Girlie Diners were going for lunch at Kaponas.  We were walking, I had changed clothes a dozen times because I couldn't work out whether or not it would be chilly there.  Layers are the order of the day.  We were a chipper and full complement - the sexy six and we knew we could enjoy our afternoon because Dot continues to improve and is home and seemingly well after her horrific experience at the weekend.  We currently have a resident horse up on the cross roads where you turn right for the cheese factory.  He/She looks well, I didn't have a close look to ascertain whether it is a he or a she.

It was actually nice and warm in the taverna - Eleni had lit the woodburner and it was in full flame so the layers started to be removed almost immediately!  We spent a long leisurely time catching up on the last four or so months since we were all together, maybe longer for the full six of us (Bee is taking the photograph).  To make things easy we all (bar Bee who has special dietary requirements) ordered lamb chops.  Everyone raves about Eleni's lamb chops but I have avoided them because normally there is something about local lamb/goat/shoat that I don't like - it is the smell and normally I can smell that smell immediately but there was none and the charcoal grilled chops were crispy with lovely rendered fat but the eye of the chop was soft and juicy.  I was converted and we asked where Eleni got them and she said the funny little butcher who works out of a portacabin in Inea.  Who knew?

Here is my plate of food and it was lovely, hand cut chips and a nice fresh salad washed down with copious amounts of room temperature Agios Onoufrious - what's not to like?  I think we might have been quite noisy - there was certainly lots of laughter.  It is so lovely that Ellen comes along - no-one makes anything of the fact that she will be 80 next birthday because she has such a young outlook and I think she and her late husband Ricky were quite a pair in their day!

Eleni brought some beautiful fresh orange slices after our main meal and then disappeared into the kitchen and came out with a massive birthday cake for Nicky and I to celebrate our respective birthdays, Nicky last Thursday and me this Thursday.

It was so kind and the cake was amazing and I normally wouldn't eat a confection like that.  We shared it amongst the girlies and amongst the Kaponas family who were sitting by the fire having their lunch.

All in all a very very successful lunch and we wandered back home and John and Mark got the last two slices of the cake.

I was so tired having had a drunk lunch time and bless John he had made sure I had access to the spare bed.  He was staying up to watch footie.  For once the Blades scraped a win so we were all happy!
