Out with Mum

Today John was out with the boys and I was doing my regular trip down to see Mum.  This time taking her old car - I am not sure how she will react to that, certainly she will find it easier to get in and out of than Kenny but I am conscious that the reality of not having the car sitting in the garage will have begun to sink in and I know it will be difficult for her and I feel sad that she has come to this point in her life.  I had promised to take her to Lidl and then we were going to have some lunch together and she has restarted the jigsaw that Freddo knocked off the table because Lilian has given her a jigsaw folder that she can close up to secure the pieces from Freddo's paws.  I am happy to take her wherever she wants to go on the day I go down.  I have told her that is our time together and when the weather improves we might take a bit of lunch down to the beach or venture a little further away from Paphos for a change of scenery.

Mum seemed to be ok about the car and we went and had a mooch around Lidl and picked up the things she wanted before returning for scrambled eggs on toast with free range eggs from Donna and then we sat and completed the edges of the jigsaw before I set off back home.

It is Mother's Day on Sunday.  We have organised to have lunch at the Farmyard and Lilian is picking Mum up.  Mum knows we are spending lunch together but not where we are going so hopefully it will be a nice surprise as she likes going there.

I remembered to stop off and get her a Mother's Day card and I wanted to get one for Lilian to thank her for being a good friend to Mum - fortunately I got exactly what I wanted in Best Wishes on my way home and we plan to pay for both their lunches.

I also remembered to collect my meat order from Shuks.  Mum has raved about the lamb shanks which I cooked last Sunday so we are restocking the freezer as he is not always able to get New Zealand lamb but was advertising it this week.

I remembered, as I was going up the Mesoghi Avenue, that I needed some deodorant so stopped off in the Smart Shop where they have a good range of reasonably priced toiletries amongst other things.  They also have quite an impressive array of wines, most of which are from the island.  I used to be able to get a very nice Sterna White in there which was a medal winner but sadly stocks of that particular one have finished.

We had donated two big fluffy blankets to Polis and Latchi Cats.  They were on the beds and although lovely and snuggly had seen better days partly because our cats loved them and despite washing them I could not get rid of all their fur.  It would appear that Sam the shelter cat would agree about how nice they are.  We are glad that they can still be used even though we don't want them.  Tomorrow morning I am going to meet Norma at the shelter to meet the cats in person.

It was a very chilly night and I looked at out two boys snuggled up together in front of the fire thinking how lucky they were - completely spoiled and loved beyond words as is our little girlie Minnie-Mou but she was in the chair next to the fire - she doesn't share her space!
