Well what a day this Monday has turned out to be - there we were this morning reading the papers in bed on our tablets when all of a sudden our internet went down. It went down big style - in the end it was off for over 24 hours but we didn't anticipate that to begin with. We reported the fault and some 12 year old read through her script and we duly answered and then she declared there was a fault - no shit and then about an hour later the engineer Dimitri who almost lives with us now pitched up and did something in the cabinet outside and then said the problem was at the other end and that another engineer would deal with it after he had finished at Steni. We were the only people on the estate who use CYTA who were affected. It felt like, and we are not sure we aren't correct, someone had pulled out a cable by mistake and it was ours. Our modem showed nothing but a power light. What ensued was a day of hanging around in case an engineer pitched up and some very very fraught calls to the technical support department. We were buggered because just about everything we have requires some sort of connectivity to the internet.
It suddenly dawned on us that we would have to sit and speak to one another!!!! Blow that for a game of soldiers - I decided to go out and do some gardening instead because it was a much nicer day than it had been yesterday which is good news for Ellen and Richard as Ellen's daughter, Richard's sister has arrived on holiday and if it had been like yesterday that would have been awful.Anyway back in the garden I have a new orchid that has put in an appearance. This is some sort of bee orchid and a beautiful burgundy colour - I think it is Ophyrs Apifera but the flower is not yet completely formed so I cannot be sure. This is lovely and I now have three different orchids in the garden. Not entirely sure how they come to be there but I am very grateful that they are.
The garden has been in a bit of suspended animation because the weather has been so much colder in March than February so things which we expect to have put in an appearance are quite late. Sadly my Polygala tree which I gave a good old pruning shows absolutely no sign of life but I will leave it for a while longer to make absolutely sure. John and I think we will replace it with one of the topiary trees that we have seen in the garden centre.
John's Mum should be here - I have some of her favourite flowers in a vase in the kitchen. I had to rescue these freesias because the heavy rain yesterday had battered them down. So pretty and so delicate and with a lovely perfume they always remind me that brighter days are ahead and next weekend we change the clocks so then we will really begin to see a change.
When I had done the gardening I wanted to do (my back was beginning to ache from bending over) I went into our bedroom to continue with my drawer tidying project - just call me Marie Kondo! John is very impressed. He likes tidy although that doesn't see to translate to his wardrobe, cupboards and spare room but I live in hope, I have done several of his drawers and he is seeing the benefit in that he actually can see what he has to wear.
As the day wore on and it was clear that we would not be getting our internet back anytime soon John decided to go and try and get his hair cut in the village because that would waste an hour and we had no TV or Radio available to us - in fact we realised we don't even have a laptop with a DVD player so that we could watch one if we had one to watch!
We arrived at the Barbers to find that there was no-one waiting which was a miracle. Monday's can't be popular so John went straight in and I wandered down to the Amphitheatre in the village to watch the sun going down behind it in a rather spectacular fashion.
Bonce coiffed we returned home for some leftover chili con carne and a glass of wine. Technically it was a non-drinking day but bloody hell CYTA can't half try your patience.
