Shit Weather

We had such plans for today English Mother's Day and we had booked to go to The Farmyard for Sunday Lunch.  Lilian was picking up Mum and traveling up - it was to be the first Sunday that Mum would not have a car.  Lilian had been poorly when we were due to go on New Year's Day so today we were trying to do it all again.  We knew the weather forecast wasn't good, we had warned Lilian that it might be heavy rain but she said that would be ok.  We got bad weather, we got terrible weather and we got a power cut which meant that we couldn't get a shower or wash our hair and the Farmyard was also affected.  We didn't want Lilian driving in those conditions and so we made the decision that we would have to postpone.  Lilian managed to get a table at Phils Bar in Coral Bay and we said that if the weather improved enough and we had electricity we would try and make it down and join them.

It was touch and go but eventually the electricity was restored and the rain abated sufficiently for us to run to the car.  As we made our way down the hill to the coast the conditions improved and by the time we got to Phil's it was positively balmy.   I haven't actually been inside before but it reminds me of a sort of upmarket Wetherspoons with lots of little booths for people to sit in.  The only trouble is that the tables are big enough to seat about 10 people so for Mum it makes it hard for her to hear what it going on.

It was a bit worrying that on Mother's Day it was very empty.  The food is ok but quite pricey.  Mum and Lilian shared spare ribs and they cost 21 euros - when you think at Steni a massive portion is about 13 euros!

I had a pork tenderloin dish which was on a bed of cinnamon spiced apple with a Commanderia jus served with chips and salad - it was actually very nice and this was reasonably priced.  We actually had a nice afternoon in spite of the stormy start.  John and I paid for Mum and Lilian.  Lilian is so good to Mum - I am not sure what we would do without her.  Unfortunately she has visitors next week so wont be able to come to the Farmyard - we are destined not to go there.
