18th March - Sally Allan's Birthday

The weather today was pants to say the least.  I had to go down to Polis to see the Orthopaedic Doctor about my shoulder and to get the results of my cholesterol test.  I haven't been to see a consultant at Polis Evangelismos before so wasn't sure what the routine was but when I went inside there were loads of people in there although fortunately half were waiting to see Dr Agammenon the/my cardiologist.

I collected my blood test results.  They are a huge improvement on the last lot but the triglyceride reading is still too high.  Hopefully Dr Manolis will be pleased and I can continue with my one little tablet at night.

I ascertained that there were three people before me in the queue to see Dr Lakoudis, one was in and then there was a Cypriot man and then a Cypriot lady.  I was not expecting to be seen quickly so text John to tell him to go grab a coffee somewhere.  The patient that was in was someone that I knew - Lucie so when she finally emerged we stopped to have a little chat, with half an eye on the queue to ensure I did not lose my slot.  Directly opposite Dr Lakoudis' office is the general toilet, it is amazing how many people slope off to the toilet and then loiter by the door for the quick hip swivel movement where they shimmy into the office when it isn't their turn!

Dr Lakoudis seemed very nice - he asked me to do some movements and stretched and pushes and asked about the background to my shoulder problem and then told me that I should have not one but two MRI to ascertain the damage to my neck and/or shoulder.

In the end I was only in a minute or two and John had barely had a chance to sip his coffee!

We called into Glykkis before returning home.  Our local DIY shop moved before Christmas into much larger premises.  It would appear that it hasn't actually completely moved from the previous premises or that the organisation of this shop will be any better than the other two.

You could be forgiven for thinking that the place had been ramraided and burgled.  There is stuff everywhere and nothing is priced and the only person who seems to know where anything is or its price is Maria.

We only wanted a new slightly longer hook to hold back the back door so that Charlie can sit in his favourite place outside without being squashed.  We had no chance of finding where one might be and in the end Maria admitted defeat and said that they should have had one but she wasn't able to find it.

I had high hopes when they first moved that this would be more like the lovely new SuperHome centre with clear aisles, things clearly priced and assistants who know where things are and are able to help you but sadly the shop had descended into the chaos that we are familiar with.  Poor Charlie will just have to continue to be squashed until we can find what we want.  It is out there somewhere.

We had been forecast really bad weather this weekend, in fact there was a yellow weather warning in place and by the time we got home we were in real Soggyville territory.  Because the wind had been so strong John had removed his waterproof sail which allows him to go to the freezer in the pump house without getting wet.  I think he was regretting this decision when I asked him to get some chicken out for our supper!

Big thanks to Gail for braving the weather and picking up my Sausage Roll order from Donna in Kathikas today and an ever bigger thanks for coming over to deliver it when it was absolutely p***ing down.  These babies are worth every penny and although John and I only planned to 'try one' for quality control purposes a half just wasn't enough so we had a whole one each - well my cholesterol is much better!!!

This evening we were treated to an amazing rainbow which I couldn't quite capture on my phone - I managed to get the whole rainbow but there was a double one and from a distance I couldn't get the second bit to show up clearly enough.  Tomorrow is Mother's Day.  We are supposed to be going to the Farmyard with Mum and Lilian and Lilian is driving but the forecast for tomorrow is even worse so we will have to play it by ear.  We don't want Lilian to drive in bad conditions and the worst of the weather is due at midday.

Our supper this evening was Kung Po chicken made using the sauce mix which we had purchased from the Chinese shop down in Paphos.  I had to use Google Translate on the package but sadly it just told me what it was but not how to use it so I had no idea whether anything else had to be added.  I thought it might not be saucy enough so made some of my own.  I didn't realise that Kung Po sauce was pretty straight forward the only trouble is it isn't something I ever order so I don't know what it should taste like.  All I can say was that this was really tasty and very spicy and we both enjoyed every mouthful.

We had the fire lit for most of the day and it was lovely in the lounge - we had thought we had had the last fire of the season but how wrong were we!!!
