At Mums

We were down at Mum's today.  I had prepared in advance what I could towards our meal.  We were having some of Shuks chicken 'fingers' which are pieces of chicken breast in breadcrumbs like adult chicken dippers.  We were serving them with a Chinese takeaway style lemon sauce which I had made and some boiled potatoes with mint and butter and coleslaw.   For pud we had found some home-made sticky toffee pudding loafing in the freezer with some cream.  This was clearly a big hit with Mum who ate a marvelous sized meal for her.  The picture above is part of her garden - her gardener Graham does a sterling job and it is a little oasis of greenery and flowers.

Freddo was a bit pissed off with me today because in the search for the cause of Mum's ant issue we noticed that Freddo's bed was a haven for deceased insects.  For some reason Mum has a lovely bed for Freddo and inside that lovely bed is a scabby old bed that I gave her and then on top of the scabby old bed is a crochet blanked which I made.  Freddo must feel like the Princess and the Pea on the top of all that!!!!  Anyway I tentatively suggested to Mum that the infested bed should go in the wash - I am not sure that any of it has been washed for a very long time.  She said Freddo wouldn't like it.  I said I didn't care!  In fact we had it washed, out on the line, dry and back in situ before Freddo could blink and he went in it shortly after we left.

Mum and I went for a little walk this afternoon.  This gave me an opportunity to take a photograph of her home from a different angle.  The wheat in the field next door has been cut ready for baling.  The bungalow is far too big for her but she is safe and happy there and there is a lot to be said for that.  Sometimes we think she would be better in somewhere smaller but this place has a lot of plusses.  We will just hope that the landlord will be reasonable when he reviews the rent again later this year.

It had been quite a warm and sunny day compared to yesterday so I went out and watered the garden.  I was very excited to see that my passion fruit has actually produced some flowers - it has only been in a about a year and I did protect it over the winter.  The flowers are not quite so impressive as the ones which the passion flower produce but once these have gone we will be rewarded with fruit hopefully.

OMG more exciting than the flowers was the fact that I saw that fruit has started to form - apparently they can take two to three months to mature and you should wait for them to fall off.  Oh my days I cannot wait!!!
