Family at ours...

Today we welcomed my niece Ellie, her husband Andy and son Jack to our house.  Jack came about 7 years ago when he was just two years old so he really doesn't have any recollection of that visit.  On his arrival he was a bit shy until he spotted the pool.  He was amazed and said to his dad... "they have a POOL, WOW, blimey they are posh!"  He was straight in and would have remained there until he was shriveled like a little sultana but we made sure that his day was interspersed with reasons to get out - not least for some food.

John went in with him and they messed about in the water with the huge ring which we had taken out of the plastic box where we keep miscellaneous things for swimming and going to the beach.  We were surprised that it was still in one piece as it must have been there quite a while.  We had two and when they were both inflated and put in the pool it left very little room for anyone to get into the water!

Ice creams are a bit hit with Jack so it is good that he has grown out of the dairy intolerance he had as a child - John gave up one of his triple chocolate and toffee mini Magnum confections for the cause!

Once Jack had relaxed and felt more comfortable with us he became more confident and is an engaging child - which is praise indeed from me who doesn't really 'do' children!!!

We had had a late lunch and spent a pleasant afternoon sat in the shade under the gazebo so we thought that they would probably set off from here and make their way back before it got dark but they wanted to go and see what Latchi was like so we decided it would be nice to go for a walk along the harbour and grab an ice-cream from the place at Porto Latchi with all the lovely flavours.

Andy and Ellie were impressed with Latchi and the general vibe of the place.  originally when they were thinking of coming I had suggested the Souli as it is a great little hotel in a fabulous location but understandably they wanted to stick with somewhere more familiar and have loved being at the Avanti but I have a sneaky suspicion that if they were to come again they would seriously look at the Souli.  If the new road from Paphos to Polis is completed that would cut the transfer time from the airport too which is a bonus.

All in all a successful day.  We drove and they followed us as far as Fitos - en route we had the most amazing view of the Super Blue Moon and then it eerily disappeared behind fingers of fog which is typical of the conditions at night in and around Kathikas at this time of year.
