The blind leading the blind

Before everything grinds to a halt here for what the French would call 'Les Grandes Vacances' we managed to nip down to Euroblinds and order a blind for the bedroom.

John wanted to try and find something similar to the ones we have in the lounge which are light grey with white pattern, or at least they are during the day, at night the lighting causes the colours to swap somehow so that the background looks white and the pattern light grey.  We did not realise until we got home that we had chosen exactly the same fabric but in dark grey rather than light grey so John is pleased.  The price was OK and hopefully the order went in before the factory shut so that we will not have to wait too long.

We now need to get the existing curtains and curtains poles down and fill in the holes which will be left behind.  At this rate it is going to be a complete redecoration job rather than just covering over the repairs!

Sadly our search for some suitable chalk paint to do the tops of the pine chests of drawers has drawn a blank so this is going to have to wait until the new stock comes into Glykkis.

Our next job was to sort out the pictures for that room.  The two square ones which were either side of the door and, for some unknown reason, hanging at different heights, have had the frames sprayed black and are now on the same side of the door hanging one on top of the other.

There is now not enough room for the picture which hung above the old bed.  New bed has a big padded built in headboard.  So our intention is to cut down the old picture to make it work.  It owes us nothing.  We bought it in The Old Creamery when we bought the furniture for our bedroom in Fennel Way which was back in 2001.

The two square pictures have been in our possession even longer.  I bought them from a shop called Amethyst that was in Yeovil and I got them for our house in Glenthorne Avenue which we sold to move into Fennel Way.

All three pictures are prints by an artist called Gerry Baptiste - they are very bright and cheerful and depict Mediterranean scenes - funny how I bought these long before we had considered buying a place in the Med - that didn't happen until 2004 although Mum and Dad were already living in Cyprus when I bought the pictures so maybe that influenced my choice.

Looking around our home now we have a lot of furniture, fixtures and fittings which we have had for a very long time!

Our evening 'date night' meal was to be steak.  Not just any old steak but a mahoosive tomahawk from Shuks which weighed in at over a kilo.  This was going to be a challenge cooking.  I found a method which was called reverse searing and you cooked it low and slow to begin with and then finished it off in a pan.  The method was perfect and resulted in a perfect rare steak which melted in your mouth.  The recipe did call for a rub to be massaged into the steak.  We did as instructed but would have left that bit out as it was a bit too salty for our palates.

I have to say hats off to John for all his cooking whilst I have been incapacitated.  Hopefully when I go and see the Doctor tomorrow I will get an idea on how things are progressing and be able to start my physio which I am not really looking forward to!

I reckon it will be packed in the surgery tomorrow with all the Saturday appointments and all those like me who were told to go on Tuesday which is a Bank Holiday so Dr Lykoudis wont be there.  When I rang him to ask if I could see him Saturday he said it was no problem but never actually told me a time to pitch up!
