Louise and Malcolm said that they would like some real plants that might survive the seasons even though for the best part of the year they will be unattended. It's not impossible although even the most robust of the succulents will look more than a little weary in the height of the season it they have had absolutely no water for months!!! Having said that I had two plants (the same as the one in the picture) which lived up on the roof terrace only getting moisture when there was some in the atmosphere. They lived quite happily, flowering with spikes of red like red hot pokers - sadly they came to a sticky end when the mini tornado we had the other year swept through the garden and took everything that was on the roof terrace so the pots that they were in got smashed.
Anyway I had left the potting up until today because we are now getting heavy condensation overnight which is perfect for these plants and so they will have been put in at the best time of year to ensure that they survive for a while at least.
On the subject of George and Pam I had a phonecall today from Pam as she is celebrating her 80th birthday, George will be celebrating his 85th and they recently had their diamond wedding anniversary. I sent flowers to mark the occasion.
That being the case we will not be around for the last day that Jane and John are here - in fact Laura returns on the same flight as them and tonight was Lynn's last evening and so we were going out for a farewell meal to Letymbou which we have done for many years.
Letymbou tavern is a lovely place - it has had a little renovation done to it since we were last there as the bar has been remodeled and the access to the toilets is via a different door.
It is a lovely traditional stone built building and so remains relatively warm with its thick walls so we were a bit unsure what to wear because the evenings up here in the hills are definitely much cooler plus the weather is set to change from the weekend with storms forecast which we hope will come later in the week so Laura can have a bit of sunshine.
The Taverna was full by early evening. Anita who owns the business is absolutely charming and makes you feel very welcome and like you are the most important people to her at that moment in time.
Dad loved that place and shortly after he passed away we did eat there with Mum and my sister, Jane and John because it coincided with Jane's birthday. Dad would have approved.
It was a lovely evening - everyone enjoyed their food and we were tucked into the corner so it was easy to chat and hear and be heard.
It was my turn to drive as John had driven last night for which I was grateful as I had been able to accompany my pizza with a glass of Koralli Xinisteri! I stuck to lime and soda this evening and had a pleasant and uneventful drive home and we were back by 9.00pm as we had been out early. Perfect.
