Shopping in Paphos

I grew some edibles this year for a bit of a laugh.  In the picture is the remainder of the chilies and tomatoes as I decided to cut down the plants today.  They will ripen in the kitchen.  The little bell peppers are sweet and the kind that you buy stuffed with cream cheese.  It was fun but the plants did take up quite a lot of room and John doesn't like them as they look untidy.  He doesn't know it but I am trying to grow some potatoes ready for Christmas.  His mum brought me out a potato bag and I had some Cyprus potatoes that had begun to sprout so I planted them and I have been dutifully covering up any green growth which is now reaching the top of the bag.  Fingers crossed!

I ran a few errands before getting to Mums this morning.  I went to the pet shop at the end of her road to see if they had any of the big tins you sometimes get for storing cat kibble.  I don't want it for cat kibble, I want it as a bin in the kitchen!  The nice man in there said he would have a ring around and if he could get me one he would put it back and I could go and collect it next week.  He asked if Mum was my Mum as she walks down sometimes to get Freddo some treats.  I said that she was and he said he thought he recognised me from bringing her in on a couple of occasions.  Then I went next door to the bee man to buy a little pot of honey cream which I remember Elena used to swear by.  Every summer I get a weird dry patch of skin on my ankle which apparently could be caused by medication - anyway it looks weird and so I thought I would try the cream.  I spent all of 5 euros and in addition to the cream I was handed a freshly picked bunch of local bananas free of charge!

Mum really didn't want much shopping today - in fact she could have managed by walking down to Paps and didn't need me to ferry her around but that would have meant giving me the day off and that wasn't likely to happen.  She had wanted me to take her for a 'cuppa' but that is such a trial as she can't suggest any where to go and wherever we do go there is always something for her to complain about, the venue, the size of the cup, the quality of the tea and/or the cost so I thought it would be a nice idea to take her down to the Marks and Sparks in Old Town to have a look for a nice new top or something for Christmas and she said that was a lovely idea so I drove down to the Old Town and parked in the sunken carpark and did the texting thing to pay for my parking and then walked with her to M&S.   Thankfully the road has now been completed so we didn't have to take our lives into our hands like the last time but she really has slowed up and so no matter how slowly I walked she was still about 10 paces behind - I reckon I could have overtaken her walking backwards!!!  Anyway once inside she showed absolutely no interest in anything in the shop even though there were quite a few nice long sleeved tops at very reasonable sale prices.  It was a waste of time taking her save for the fact that I managed to pick up a twin pack of the bras I like for the mighty price of €6.50 - now that really was a bargain and made it worthwhile going.

I got her back to Paps for the few bits she wanted before saying my goodbyes and making my way back home but not before nipping into Lidl to pick up some lovely bits and pieces for tomorrow night's picky tea.
