Happy 80th Ellen xxx

Today the girlies of Lordos 1 took the lovely Ellen (on the right) out to celebrate her 80th birthday which falls at the weekend but her daughter will be over and Ellen, Di and Richard will be away.  Gail, Nicky, Jan and I took Ellen to the Garden Centre for a special afternoon tea.  Bless Ellen she thought she was coming to our house for a sandwich so she was mortified not to have dressed up!

Marianna and her family really pulled out the stops making it a really memorable afternoon.  Marianna had put up decorations to mark the 80th birthday with balloons and banners and a special individual Victoria Sponge with a candle.

The afternoon tea was equally as good as when we had been with the Clan.  We started with lovely sandwiches and wraps and quiche and then fruit scones with jam and cream.  Like the last time we finished those and were feeling rather full!

Those that wanted had prosecco - that was the birthday girl Ellen and Jan.  Gail and Nicky had iced latte and I had tea.  There is unlimited tea and coffee included in the price of the afternoon tea here.

Everyone though that the setting was absolutely sublime.  It is so weird being sat, almost hidden, in the middle of a Garden Centre and Marianna and her daughter Emily are just so fantastic - nothing is too much trouble.

Ellen had brought with her a photograph album which her family had given her and it was like This is Your Life with photographs of Ellen spanning her 80 years.

She was so instantly recognisable she hasn't changed much over the years and I know she misses her beloved Ricky dreadfully but she is such a lovely lady and has us all in stitches.

Our second tower of food arrived with amazing, pretty and scrumptious cake confections!  Too many after the lovely savoury plate so the boys won as we packed up what we couldn't manage to take home.  I hope that everyone enjoyed it and thought it was good value.  We managed to sit there chatting until they very politely turned off the electric to the poly tunnel!!!

A good day I think.
