A Cultural Day...

We had John and Jane with us today.  It is quite a challenge to think of something new to do when your visitors have been coming to the island for over 30 years!!!  We had enjoyed visiting our village museum with the Clan so we planned to take Jane and John to see what was on offer including the loom that I like to think of as My Loom (the one on the left of the photograph above) which enabled me to make two beautiful runners several years ago.

I had ascertained from Marianna that there would be no school children there today - they come on a Thursday so the museum was in darkness when we arrived (Marianna was out) so it took us a while to locate all the light switches for which three visitors, hitherto unseen in the darkness, were very grateful.  I have to say out little village does house a lovely little museum which actually comes to life on a Saturday when there is a guide and several locals practicing the traditional crafts of gourd carving, silk worm cast pictures, basket making and weaving.  As a result the establishment has recently won quite a prestigious award and rightly so.

The slightly unpredictable weather meant that our next venue was a real hit - Sterna Winery - where John accompanied Jane in the wine tasting which they seemed to both enjoy even though it was very nearly stymied by some random tourist woman who had a bit of a melt down about where she was expected to sit - stupid woman.  Actually she probably did us a favour because Jane and John were not charged for their wine tasting as a result.

John and I kept our table warm outside.  Bless the staff who kept bringing us little dishes of cheese and meat and fruit even though we had planned to have a platter anyway!!!

After the wine tasting had finished we had our platter and a bit more wine - bless John Page - he slowly sipped one glass as he was driver.  Anyway it was a lovely afternoon and although they may well have been to the winery before it wont have been for a very long time.  We rounded off our day with them by returning to Villa 10b for a cup of tea/coffee before the Pages made their way back to Emba.

We have a busy time at the moment so we wont be seeing them again until Sunday when hopefully (weather permitting as Storm Ciaran is about to hit the UK) Jane's cousin Lynn will be joining us.
