A good day

A new week and by our standards we had a spot of good fortune.  Firstly we had been waiting for some money to be transferred into our account and, based on the experience we had when Mum had her bank account changed and her pension supplier changed, we expected the payment to the Alpha Bank to get lost in the ether but actually it arrived and it arrived a day early so that was pleasing.

Then when John nipped down to Polis to get me some shopping because we had Jan and Derek coming for a meal this evening I suggested that we replace our old Kilim rug in the conservatory, that everyone manages to ruck up and trip over, for one the same as under the tub chairs which we had purchased from Paps some time ago.  He thought that was a good idea and even better when he went to get it, it was, unbeknown to us, half price which makes up for the fact that when we went to get the previous one it had been half price until the day we bought it!

I got the opportunity to give the conservatory floor a good clean before putting it down and we like it - it adds a subtle splash of colour.  The Kilim is, apparently suitable to be outside in the Summer so that is what we are going to do, put it outside on the roof terrace for the Summer - it has seen better days but still has plenty of wear left in it.

Today I spent more time out in the garden and saw what appeared to be a levitating flower!!!! It was an Arf which had been caught in a really fine spider's web!!!  Bassam came round today, he and John were sat out having a coffee - John is getting prices from Bassam for work which we want done and which Malcolm would like to have done.  I know that John is keen to get the roof on the carport replaced for something which is lighter (in weight) and more waterproof so that he can protect the Qashqai better.

I was doing Cypriot food for our meal with Jan and Derek.  I had been cooking a stifado for a couple of days and I was doing some Cypriot roast potatoes and try as I might they are never ever even close to the potatoes that Argy produces even though I think I follow her instructions to the letter.  For pudding we where having a Cypriot filo pastry orange cake.

We were thinking of Argy and sent her some get well wishes.  Fingers crossed that her rehabilitation is going to plan.

We had a nice evening with Jan and Derek - Jan kindly brought round some poached pears which she had done, God knows where she finds the time as she and Derek work almost until it is dark trying to get their pump house sorted.  The food went down well and it was really nice to catch up with them at long last - before we know it they will be returning to the UK!!!

It was not a late night for which I was really quite grateful - we are both feeling exhausted and we have a really busy week ahead of us with something on every day.  Before we know it it will be Christmas and I am beginning to panic!!!
