It was a much brighter day than we had expected and we were going down to Peyia for lunch so it was going to be even warmer there than here. There is still some colour in the garden particularly now that the Bird of Paradise is flowering again. I have a feeling John must have been checking out his new glasses for long distance as he appears to be staring into space!!!
It is lovely to have a Sunday off from cooking although I am not a great fan of eating a traditional lunch out on a Sunday unless it is at the Farmyard in Kathikas!!! Lilian is a good cook and she obviously scares Mum enough to eat everything that she puts out!!!
Today we started with a really lovely and quite spicy vegetable soup with a tomato base. Normally Mum would avoid this like the plague but as everyone else was enjoying it she decided she would too. Main course was a chicken chasseur minus the mushrooms with peas and carrots and some of the nicest boiled new potatoes I have had in ages even though Lilian thought she had let them boil dry.
Pudding was provided by me. I had some Cypriot Orange Cake in the freezer and we managed to get some cream on the way down so that was good and seemed to go down well. It was lovely down in Peyia and Lilian had the doors open which meant that Mum probably froze but when asked she said it was ok.
I was thrilled to see a photograph on Social Media of Ellen and a group of her friends and her daughter Di enjoying an afternoon tea at the Garden Centre. She must have organised it after we had taken her there for her 80th so it must have gone down well which is great. The Garden Centre have prepared another area for afternoon tea which can seat more people, it is on the left just as you go in where they used to keep a small selection of indoor plants.
