23 Days to Go...

My blogging tonight is being interrupted by John trying to tempt me with some Marks and Sparks treacle tart and cream so forgive me just a mo whilst I humour him and have a tiny little sliver just to be sociable!!  It is a sugar-rush and a half and my teeth are positively aching but it is an excellent treacle tart.

I had two lovely surprises at work today, the first was when Euan, our comms consultant, swung by the office on his motorbike armed with home made cakes from his wife Jane and a card to wish John and I luck for the future (together with a very acceptable I-Tunes voucher!!) and the second later when Val, our ex-office cleaner called by to say goodbye and give John and I a card too.

I have known both of them for a long time.  In fact, Val was at the office when I arrived there as a newbie in 1991, Euan became associated with the company more than 10 years ago probably more like 15 when we had the office rewired for Cat5.

John has had a very productive day again today.  He caught up with Trev and managed to borrow back our old petrol mower so he could finish the lawns which he started yesterday, and he managed to get rid of all the stuff we no longer needed in the garden.

He also managed to rustle up the most heavenly slow roast belly-pork with salad and new potatoes for tea which was absolutely beautiful and as someone who doesnt really like pork that is praise indeed.  We know that pork is plentiful and relatively cheap in Cyprus so it is a meat that I am learning to like and as John says it is all down to the preparation and presentation.

Tomorrow brings to an end my penultimate week.  I said to John tonight that I still find it hard to get my head round the fact that I will be finishing at work next Friday and then a couple of weeks later we will be leaving for good.  The house is slowly being packed up around us and every night we both have dreams about building or decorating or home making - it wont be long before it is a reality.

P.S. does anyone speak Japanese???  The audio system in Mum's new car has some of the controls etc in Japanese and there is no manual (mind you that would probably be in Japanese too!!).  Apparently she was taking Dad out on a test drive this afternoon to get to grips with the foot control for the handbrake - now that is a contradiction in terms isn't it?? I dont know how they got on...
