Day 4

Blimey what a day it has been today...

First of all we had a bit of a bargain when we called into the DIY shop at the top of the Polis Road on our way to Droushia.  Paint in Cyprus is expensive - no B&Q here to keep the prices down - and we have a lot of painting to do - so we were chuffed when we found 3 x three litre tubs of Magnolia paint reduced to €7.00 each.  Having spent nearly five years in married quarters you get to like Magnolia!!!  Anyway we thought that it would do as undercoat if nothing else.  We were a little bit confused when the guy in the shop told us that we could thin it down if we wanted.  John was busy chuntering that the problem with the house at the moment was because they had used thin paint blah blah blah...

Up in Droushia John was on sanding, filling and skimming and I was on painting.  Half way down the beam between the dining room and the kitchen I was begging for the paint to be thinned!!!  Anyone watching us would have thought we looked like an advertisement for the Halifax - loves young dream starting out on their first house together - or an advert for Porter Dodson for those of you who have been on the website and seen the girl painting (left).

With no neighbours to worry about we have the Ipod on loud to keep us company.  With an 80s megamix we can recapture our youth - Black Box Ride on Time reminds us of the day our eyes met over the bar in the Hole in the Wall.  There was an eclectic mix on the Juke Box in the late 80s so if we hear Ride on Time, Blueberry Hill or worse, Two Little Boys, it sends us back to 1989 - how scarey is that???

We worked hard today and broke the back of the decorating needing to be done in the lounge and felt really chuffed with what we had achieved.  We wrapped up at around 5.00pm and were travelling back to Emba when Dad phoned to say that he had seen a reasonably priced truck at the Timark Car Shop where Mum had recently purchased her Nissan Note.  We have been trying to decide between a workhorse Twin-Cab Truck and a sensible smaller 4x4 car to see us right for a fair few years.  We rather like Mum and Dad's CRV and recently Trevor and Vix purchased a new shape model and we really liked that too.  We have been checking the prices on the web for several months and monitoring the Cyprus car lots and boy the prices were high.  We thought if we were lucky we might be able to afford some ropey old thing that no-one else wanted!!  Well we did better than that.  We managed to find a fairly new CRV - not the newest shape like Trev's - and they agreed to take the ageing Vitara in part exchange.  We pick up our new baby on Tuesday so we have to get our act together and get insurance sorted out.  The man at Timark assures us he will tax and mot and make good all the little bits and pieces that John pointed out - it should look smart with a clean and a polish!

Early start for us tomorrow as the granite man is coming to fit the worktops in the kitchen.  Will try and remember the camera so that I can post some pictures.  Kitchen cupboard doors should follow on Monday hopefully.

Finally thanks to all our followers and to those who take time to add a comment - it makes us feel closer to you all xxx
