The Coptic Storm Arrives...

So torrents of rain during the night and the early hours of this morning - BUGGER - the Coptic Storm has apparently arrived late this time as the last one was due on 27th September and called El Saleeb.  For the uninitiated this is what the internet says about Coptic Storms...

The "Coptic chart" is named after one of the ancient religions and was devised many years ago in Alexandria (Egypt).  Many local officials, for example:officers from the Fisheries Department and the marine Police, have copies of the chart which give details of when storms are predicted and even many local fishermen keep a folded copy in their pockets!  The chart is fairly accurate and rains usually begin 72 hours, either before or after the given date.  The gales usually set in from south-west and veer to the west and north west and last an average of 3 days.

We feel sorry for Laura and Mark who have only really had one settled day since they arrived.  Still undaunted we made our plans for the day which started with a bit of a lazy morning and brunch.

Looking down towards the coast we could see that it was brighter over towards Pomos and so we headed off in that direction stopping at Gialia and the garden centre on the way.  We were hoping to get a small tree fern to go in one of the pots that Trev and Vix gave us but they didnt have small ones so we are going to have a look at Kissos next time we are passing.  I decided to buy a Euphorbia milii (Crown of Thorns) as I had seen some cracking ones at Jeanette's last week.

Laura and Mark brought us two nice palm/fern things (name unknown for the moment) which I need to find on the tintyweb so I know how to look after them (Laura forgot to ask!!).  Pictures will follow - probably tomorrow.

We carried onto Pomos Point which was in full sunshine when we arrived.  Pomos Point is one of my most favourite places anywhere and we have seen it develop from next to nothing 20 years ago to the pretty little harbour it is today.

We were very lucky that the weather held out whilst we were there.

We enjoyed a walk around the harbour looking at the fishing boats and then on the beach collecting pebbles!

We rounded off the trip by walking up to the Kanalli Taverna to have a drink in the early afternoon sunshine.  Not the cheapest place in the world to have a drink but surely one with one of the best views!

We could see dark clouds coming up over the hills so we decided to head back home via Polis so that we could do a bit of shopping for tea having decided that we would eat in this evening.  Just as well as it transpires because as I type this it is absolutely pouring down and we are all going to have to run for it tonight when we go across the courtyard to bed!

Tomorrow we are going for a barbeque whatever the weather!!
