I was so grateful for a day at home. My batteries needed a complete recharge and I was itching to get into the garden. Whilst I had been away John had painted the outside of the house and all the external boundary walls around the garden and it all looked beautifully clean and fresh and he had, to the best of his ability, cared for the garden and the plants but he is the first to admit that this is all a bit of a mystery to him and so there were things that needed some attention if they were to survive and boy how things grow at this time of year. Some drastic pruning is required if there is any hope of some colour when Hazel comes to stay. I am glad to report that my little bit of Keinton Mandeville, a penstemon plant grown by my cousin Julie, which I hid in my suitcase in my shoe arrived safe and sound and now has a new home in the front garden. Whether it will survive here in Droushia is anyone's guess but I have my fingers crossed - it will just depend on whether it can cope with the extremes we get up here.
Our neighbours called round for a drink this evening - they have been stressed out by their building works and their temperamental builder and it is a major project and there is so much mess involved not least because their requirements have grown as the project has progressed.
They didn't stay too long but it is the first time they have been around. Lakis is allergic to cats and Chivers seems to be firmly in love with him which is a bit of an issue as Lakis can cope providing the cats don't touch him and Chivers keeps wanting to wrap himself around him at every opportunity.
I wasn't too upset that they didn't stay - I was flagging a bit today!!
