Family and Friends...

I shall start with a jolly photograph of my sister Kaye, niece Elena and my gorgeous great nephew Jack who was having a fun time at ThomasLand although judging by sister's attire I am guessing the weather was unpredictable - bless him though he always looks a happy chappy.  Kaye has got us all delving into the family tree that she is preparing and today when Mum came up we started chatting and piecing things together.  My mum was from a large family and recollected a sibling that died shortly after birth although initial searches under the name she remembered came back with no information so Mum wondered if she had been incorrect.  Then I remembered we used to pass a church in Somerset and she used to tell me that she had two brothers buried there and as we could account for all the others this meant that one of them had to be this missing brother.  Anyway to cut a long story short Google enabled us to find the church and then find a link to a free website that allows you to do a very simple search on births, deaths and marriages and eventually we found him just as Mum had remembered.  My sister now has an entry for all mum's brothers and sisters so now we have to put some layers above and below.  It is addictive stuff!

Our neighbour Persephone called around today with some special cake to commemorate Agios Fanourios whose day is tomorrow - she told me that traditionally they make this special cake from seven ingredients but no dairy or eggs and when cooked they cut into seven pieces and give a piece to seven friends.  How lovely is that?  It looks and smells a bit like parkin and John is going to check it out later because when it arrived it was piping hot.

Charlie is in love with Persephone - apparently he visits her regularly so he is going to be gutted tomorrow when Persephone has returned to work and there will be no more Percy's Cafe up the road - he will be bereft because his first choice watering hole at Pam and George's is also closed - I am guessing we will see a little bit more of him!

So as I said previously Mum was up as it was Sunday and we had opted for a light lunch and then went down to Latchi so that Mum could see Janice, Mick, Paul, Viv, Nathan and Alicia.  We stopped for a cuppa and a chat and then carried on down to the ice-cream place at Porto Latchi so John could sample the hazelnut and pistachio ice-cream.

This evening we were rounding off the Bobsters special birthday by heading off to Kathikas and having a drinkie there although this picture was taken before the drinkies arrived.  Can you believe that it was the end of August and we were cold sat there!!!!

I had opted to drive to I was the one sampling the smoothies and hot chocolate whilst the boys had a few beers (Oyster) and Di had a rather potent cocktail before resorting to a smoothie.  Despite being chilly it is actually a nice place for an evening drink and it was good to catch up and have a chat with the bar owner Rachel - a fellow Yeovilian living in Kathikas and married to Savvas - between them they also run the Farmyard a little further down the village.  A lovely evening but not a late one as we are up early tomorrow and off on a boat trip with John's family.

All that is left to say is one final big fat happy birthday to our mate The Bobster xxx
