Happy 65th Birthday to the Bobster...

Today we were off to wish a very very happy 65th birthday to the Bobster who is one of the nicest people you could care to meet apart from the fact he is an Addick and by that I mean that he supports Charlton Athletic not that he is a smack-head!!

We had wanted to mark this occasion with something special and after a lot of investigation and thought we opted to buy him a leather bound personalised book which contained pages and pages of newspaper reports on his beloved Charlton Athletic.

I have to give a big thumbs up to the company that I ordered it from Historic Newspapers because I ordered it on the Tuesday morning via the internet and because we wanted it personalised we knew it would take longer (it said at least a day) but by the afternoon they had confirmed they had shipped it and by the Friday afternoon it was delivered to Droushia - you really can't complain at that service can you.

John had me making a personalised card in the early hours of this morning - we had found that the nearest game to Rob's birthday was Charlton Athletic v Burnley held on 23rd August 1953 so only two days out and we managed to find a photograph of the programme on the internet - you would think these things take a couple of minutes but about an hour and a half later we ended up with something we were happy with.  Mum and I had been duffers on Wednesday and forgot to get a card for Rob from Mum so I used the one I had bought.

As a beer drinker John had put together a selection of real ales for Bobster whilst he was watching his footie later today but the main present was the book which looks as though it was a hit.  We maybe should have gift-wrapped a magnifying glass for some of the articles but we reckon Diana will thank us big style because this is going to keep Rob quiet for many days, weeks, months and possibly years to come.  It was so good that he could remember being at many of the matches - not because he is so very old but because there were a decent amount of reports from more recent seasons and because the reports are from facsimiles of the original newspapers there is all sorts of other things to read about.

We were so very pleased that he liked his gift.  We know it is quite a milestone and we wanted to mark it appropriately.  We shall all get together tomorrow evening and raise a glass or two.  Diana knows better than to organise something which will drag Bobby away from his beer and nuts!!!

We rounded off our visit with some very nice home-made cake (cheers Diana) and freshly brewed coffee sitting outside catching up on events together.  Hang on though - is that the birthday boy being Mum????

Seriously though congratulations Rob on being officially retired - you are a great friend and our lives in Droushia are all the better for having you and Diana just down the road from us.  Hopefully we will have many more birthdays to celebrate and soon we can reinstate our Droushia Days Out and go on a Thelma and Louise, Statler and Waldorf road trip!
