Another brick in the wall..

Today John completed the last part of the wall project by covering the bottom of the wall between us and 11a - or at least as much as he had wanted to do.  This is a time consuming, labourious, hot and messy job but the end result is more than worth it and it has spurred us on to clean and tidy other areas outside and I am enjoying doing that - this house is where we expect to end our days so time, money and effort invested will be for no-one else's benefit but our own.  It has been exceptionally hot today so our mornings efforts were punctuated by drink stops and the thought of a jump into the pool when we had finished.

Many years ago my neighbour Galatia gave me a cactus for Easter.  It lives up on the roof terrace so gets no care or attention but seems to thrive and John pointed out that it was full of buds (yet again).   These buds will bloom for just one day and give off a heady scent and then they are gone.  I must try and remember to get a shot of them if I am around as it is spectacular and each year I get more and more flowers - this plant must be about 7 years old now.

There is a little colour in the garden but the unseasonably high temperatures are taking their toll.  Having moaned and groaned about the cold wet winter all of a sudden the weather has gone mental and we are being issued warnings as the inland temperatures are tipped to be around 45 degrees although obviously cooler up here in the hills and down on the coast.  I have sent an email to all the pickleballers today to take care, rest between games and take water on board as we don't want any casualties - there are only four playing and three of them are over 80!!!  There was an extra large fan in the room last Friday so hopefully that will still be there as it made quite a difference when we were playing.

There are definite benefits in having friends in high places as tonight we were going down to Latchi with Lakis, Argy and Kia for our evening meal.  There is a large holiday complex right in the centre of Latchi which is now called Latchi Family Resort.  It used to be a family resort and then it was turned into some tree-hugging holistic yoga retreat type place which ran for a couple of years and then closed.  This was such a shame as the site covers some 65 acres of landscaped gardens.  Recently Argy told us that her brother had taken a business interest in the complex with the hopes that it could be turned round into a viable proposition once again.

We had heard good reports about the all you can eat and drink buffet which they put on so we were going to try it  and report back to Andreas.

It was a beautiful evening although perhaps just a bit too hot but we made our way up to the bar area which has the most fabulous views in all directions but particularly out to sea.

We had a pre-dinner drinkie up on the terrace served by a very personable young man before we made our way downstairs to the restaurant where we were meeted and greeted and given an explanation as to how the restaurant worked but basically you could have whatever you wanted from the drinks station and from the buffet and out on the terrace there was a chef cooking some fresh meat to go with the other items already in the hot trays.

I could have stayed on the salad bar without venturing anywhere else as there was so much to chose from and it was all nicely presented and fresh.  I did have a little meat - fesh chicken cooked by the chef outside and some really nice beans like I have at the Last Castle.  The white wine was more than palatable too.  Apparently at the moment they are charging just 10 euros for you to enjoy this.

Argy and Lakis thought the cooked food was excellent - John wished he had had space for the chicken but had filled up on pastichio and kleftiko and souvla and he said it was all fantastic.

I can't tell you what was on the pudding station - we were too full to take a look but he waiter kindly put a large platter of fresh melon in front of us for which we were grateful because sitting outside on the terrace with the sun going down was getting warmer and warmer!!!

We really must thank Argy and Lakis for taking us with them this evening and for her brother being involved so that we got a chance to try it out as guests.  I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone wanting a meal with a view and a very reasonably priced one at that.  I wonder if Mum might like to try it if they offer the buffet on a Sunday lunchtime?
