A Lovely Lunch at Vasilikon...

This morning we got up and decided to tackle the honeysuckle which belongs to next door and which stretches the length of the footpath which approaches our house.  This honeysuckle has not had any TLC for years and the middle of it has got very woody and died and we are greeted by a carpet of dead leaves by our front gate every time it is windy.

Honeysuckles are great survivors and actually thrive from a bit of a radical haircut so it will, when it greens back up, look better for our hard work and for a while at least I will not have to keep sweeping up the debris.

It was a beautiful morning although there is a definite autumnal feel and the sun is much lower casting long shadows still it was warm work and John's reward was a dip in the pool afterwards to cool down.

It is quiet here at the moment save for a worker who pitches up periodically to do stuff to the 8's- the owners are obviously in no rush.

JJ&S's final week is fair racing by.  It is Tuesday and today we had decided to go to the Winery at Vasilikon to have a spot of lunch and restock our wine rack.  We all managed to squeeze into Kenny and Stan had offered to drive which was kind.

It was busy at the Winery, we never see it this busy even in the height of the season but that is good for the business.  We opted for a table outside but in the shade.  We had taken Jacky and Stan here a couple of years ago when they were holidaying with family at the Helios - it had been a fleeting visit and at that time the winery did not have a full menu.

We spent a pleasant couple of hours eating and drinking.
The food is good.  Janet chose lamb chops, Stan a pork chop, John sea bass, I had a chicken wrap and Jacky opted for the halloumi stuffed ravioli and John, Janet and Stan even managed to fit in a bit of pudding afterwards in the shape of apple pie.  We are always made to feel very welcome by all the staff  but particularly the lovely Maria with her super smiley face and hugs and kisses.

We learned today that there is a new white wine being produced.  We had stuck to the normal Vasilikon with our meal but when John bought a mixed box of red and white Yiannis gave him a bottle of the new white as a gift.  This was so kind of him as the new one is a limited production and more expensive than the regular.

We got our precious cargo home and took a look at the five different wines we have from the winery.  Agios Onoufrios is our favourite red but we have Carol and Paul to thank for the bottle of Methy which we will be saving for Christmas or at least when we sat around the wood burner because this is a heavy and heady tipple!!!  I am hoping I wont like the new white as much as I do the regular - otherwise this might be an expensive exercise.

We spent the remainder of the afternoon/evening playing dominoes - Mexican Trains and if we heard Stan declare "Now isn't that lucky?" once we heard it a million times!!!  It began to get quite cool sitting outside but John was determined to keep on playing until he, the Scorer, was victorious but sadly that did not happen!!!

We said goodnight to our visitors and they made their way back to Polis - we have an early start tomorrow as the boys are playing golf at Minthis Hills and we are all going to have a posh breakfast at the clubhouse.  Not sure what else I will do with Janet and Jacky but I know Janet wants to find a Christmas tablecloth so the Market in Paphos Old Town might be the best bet and I can take them there and sit and wait until they have had a mooch around.
