Let the Battle commence...

Today was round two of the Minthis Hills challenge for Uncle Stan and John.  They had so enjoyed themselves last week that they had rebooked.  Currently, until next week, there is a generous discount on a round with a buggy because there is maintenance work going on, on the course.  This did not affect our boys - they were just glad to be able to play on a real course.

We had decided that we would all go and have breakfast together and keep the boys company for a while as their tee-time was 12.20pm.  I ordered eggs benedict with smoked salmon and asparagus and it was absolutely delicious - so delicious that I am going to have to try and do this at home and try and make the Hollandaise to John's liking - I couldn't convince him to try it today, I wish I had because I think he would have like it but he thinks it will be fatty like mayonnaise and he doesn't do mayonnaise.

We girlies left the boys to play nicely and I headed down to the Old Town and the market.  This is an area which Jacky and Janet have not as yet explored and I was happy to sit and watch the world go by whilst they had a mooch around.

I chose to sit in the area where there is the 'living wall'.  This has now become quite a landmark in the Old Town and is very impressive - it is a riot of colour and the lime green of the leaves of the Duranta are a perfect foil for the deep purple leaves of the Tradescantia.

It was amazing, sitting there, how many people waddled by, grossly overweight and struggling with their mobility and how many people had clearly got dressed in the dark.  I cannot believe how much I agonise about looking neat and tidy wherever I am going and how mortified I am if we get a visitor and I am having a 'scruffing' day.

Refurbishment work in the Old Town is ongoing but the areas which have been done and and around the Market look lovely.  Old buildings have been done up and painted and there are artworks and murals everywhere.  Now it is pedestrianised it is a very pleasant place for a wander, there are interesting shops and a variety of cafes and eateries.

I did not walk too far for obvious reasons but I did want to try and find the place where our friends John and Rula used to run a stall which originally sold linens and then later Rula added jewelry.  We are thinking that during the time of the refurbishment they closed their stall down through lack of custom - we don't know that for sure as we have not seen them to be able to ask them but they are no longer there and when Mum and I went to find where they had been we simply did not recognise the place but today I worked out where they would have been and found it but it is a different shop altogether and the girl working there had no knowledge of who used to have it which was a shame.

Jacky and Janet had the opportunity to have a good look round and to gather some ideas for future craft projects.  We were all impressed by the poppy sculpture in the shop opposite where I had been waiting for them.  It is something that Jacky was keen to try and reproduce so we decided to go down to the Mall so that they could have one last look in Jumbos, this was after we had been to the Marks and Sparks in Old Town where I bought myself a nice little linen dress for a massive €12.50!!

After their shopping trip I took the girlies back to Polis and went home to feed the cats and awaited a call from the golfing duo to tell me that they were ready to be picked up.  I thought I would have time to rest my foot for a bit but No No No!!!  I had only just got the cats fed and the washing in before I had to shoot off to Tsada.

They had had a good day again, not quite as good as last week because they had got caught up with slow playing four-balls in front of them but they enjoyed it nonetheless and today finished in a draw which is probably a fair result!

When we returned to Polis Gardens Jacky and Janet had been up to the new bakery and bought a load of goodies for us to eat.  The food was delicious, we had chicken and potatoes and pilafi and fasoulia and some salad and then a right old selection of cakes.

It had been a long day and we were tired so we said our goodbyes and shot off back home where John decided on a cool down in the pool.  Today had been a lot hotter than yesterday and he had been out in the sun nearly all day - he said the pool was fabulous - I just took his word for it!!

We managed to watch the two remaining episodes of A Confession.  What an interesting programme and not least because it features a policeman call Mike Veal and the first time we came to Cyprus on holiday together the very same Mike Veal was here on holiday with his girlfriend who was a friend of Angela and Richard's daughter Anita.  We spend several evenings with him - in those days he was just a humble PC.  His character doesn't come across too well in A Confession and I seem to think I have read things in the press about him recently which implicates him in the bodged up investigation into a VIP paedophile ring - allegedly.
