going out - out out

Thursday was, by our standards, a very quiet day for which I was quite grateful as we have been so busy of late.  We were leaving our guests to their own devices today and this gave us the opportunity to just give the house a bit of a tidy which it so desperately needs.

We heard from Liselotte that they were going to have to cancel coming to pickleball tomorrow for a number of reasons not least that their RAV was playing up and they had a trip to the airport to pick up visitors so they either needed to get it sorted tomorrow or go and hire another car.  It was sensible to cancel and to let us know in time for us to make alternative arrangements with Mum.

So Friday we decided that we would eventually get round to purchasing a replacement kitchen tap as ours has now just about given up the ghost as it spews water from all over the place.  We had seen one in G&P's sometime ago and so made our way down there only to find the road shut off and the pavement outside being dug up.  It wasn't easy to work out whether the shop was actually open - it didn't really look like it was but we parked up as close as we could and carefully made our way into the shop trying to avoid any further foot/ankle injuries.  The inside of the shop is having a refurb too so we were worried that the tap might no longer be there but thankfully it was and we were given a hefty 20% discount on our purchases and John was offered a job!!

We then decided to go and sort out what Mum's vet could offer for Fred to stay over Christmas.  Last year he was in for too long and we didn't think it was fair on him.  We spoke to a lovely girl called Chantelle and arranged for him to go in for a much shorter period over the festive season which will work well for Fred, Mum and John and I.  It was lovely to get it sorted because now we can start making plans and I know that Mum will feel happier about that.   Mum was happy with the arrangements and we are now on a search for pasty ingredients so that we can have our morning together making them followed by a trip to the Elysium to see the Christmas decorations.

Mum is over the moon with the craft book which Janet and Jacky brought for her - it is an etching book and she has started and enjoying it.  So anyone coming over please see if  you can find something similar as I know she can manage to do this.  Whilst at Mum's she showed me a picture of her sister-in-law Margaret (married to Mum's brother Ivor) holding her latest great grandchild.  Amazing - there is nearly 90 years between them and bless my Aunty Margaret she suffered a major stroke about 15 or so years ago and is still with us which is a testament to the care that my uncle gives her and he is 90 himself.

We returned home having received a phonecall from Bassam asking for John to call in ASAP.  We were a bit worried but it transpired that he has now got the approval for Photovoltaics and wanted John's opinion on the installation.

JJ&S's holiday is racing to a conclusion.  This evening we had agreed upon a meal at the Farmyard in Kathikas followed by a drink or two at the gin bar and as they had not seen Di and Rob we had invited them to join us which they had accepted providing that they could get back in time to watch the England match which was fine by us.

We had a lovely meal - Di, Rob, John and I shared a selection of Chinese which was delicious.  Janet and Jacky both chose the salmon and Stan had a pork dish.  It was fabulous and it is always a nice touch when the chef comes out to make sure everyone is happy.   We had decided to leave Kenny parked up at the Farmyard and we said goodbye to Di and Rob and then we walked up to the square and the Gin Bar.

We really enjoyed our pair of hours at the gin bar.  Savvas was in great form and I have to thank him so much for my two new gin glasses.  Stan has to thank him for the hangover he got from the Long Island Iced Tea cocktail which Savvas mixed thinking it was for John and then looked rather worried when Stan started to drink it!

We also have to thank Tassos our local taxi driver who rang at 10.00pm to confirm we still wanted picking up at 11.00pm little knowing that he himself was actually in Nicosia seeing his grandson which we assume is a new arrival.  He sent his son to pick us up in the mini-bus instead.  What a great guy - we realise that he is the physio that Lakis and Argy kept talking about when they went down to Marios's clinic earlier in the summer and met a guy working there who said he was from Droushia - well he was and he is Tassos's son.  He delivered John and I and the two gin glasses home safely before going on down to Polis for JJ&S.  Another successful night!
