Today has been pretty much dominated by Boris and his injuries. A couple of weeks ago he was involved in a fight which led to him getting a right old swipe down his face. The resulting scar across his nose may never go away which is a bit of a shame as it is spoiling his hitherto beautiful face. We had thought that was the extent of his injuries but then found a rather nasty bite wound to his leg which turned a bit nasty but we were able to deal with it at home and he seemed to make a full recovery.
Whilst Michelle was here Boris had been in a fight again and when we returned home from a day out John showed us that he had a swollen face. We managed to find the puncture wound which was under his ear and lifted the scab so that we could expunge the gunk inside which we did successfully and then the swelling subsided and once again he seemed to be fine.
Some other cat in the neighbourhood has clearly pissed him off big style because he was been in a fight yet again and a couple of days ago we noticed a small hard lump under his ear/chin but it wasn't troubling him at all and we could press it and move it and he didn't mind. I think at this stage it was probably cellulitis as we couldn't find any puncture wounds at all but we were concerned that he hadn't actually been healing properly previously so I made an appointment at the vets so that we could get him looked at and get him a course of antibiotics. Yesterday the swelling had grown and the colour of the skin around it had changed to a livid purple colour so we knew that now there was an abscess that would need dealing with. This morning he managed to scratch his face and burst the abscess which was, to put it mildly, gross. We scooped him up and cleaned him off and got out as much of the pus as we could giving the exit hole a good old sloosh with salt water. There was so much gunk and it absolutely stank and neither John nor I are very good with that sort of thing but poor Mr Boo needed to be cleaned up and having done so was much happier and wanted to go out as normal.
We were relieved when he returned mid afternoon and decided to sleep on our bed so was to hand when we needed to get him into the cat basket and down to the vets. The vet shaved around the wound and said we had done a good job at dealing with the abscess - he just needed to have some drugs administered there and then by way of injection and we were given a course of anti-biotics for him. We got him home and gave him the collar that Charlie had worn when he had his abscess which prevented him from interfering with the wound. By this time Boris was ravenous and so we fed him and he then buggered off out, only to return later minus the collar which was so annoying. Anyway he is none the worse for his trip to the vets and apart from looking a bit scraggy around his chops is pretty much back to normal.
Other than the excitement with Boris John had to go down to Paphos today with the Peugeot and I had seen a rocking chair for sale that I wanted to get and put out by the day bed. It was a bit of a bargain as it is a sturdy piece of furniture but we will do a bit of our own upcycling on it. The previous owner obviously made the cushions herself and they aren't brilliant and we are not sure about the colour.
I have to thank my lovely Mother in Law Janet for this - I had seen it advertised some time ago and John had said no because he wasn't sure where it was going to go but when I showed it to Janet she said yes and she said she wanted to buy it for me.
Whilst John was down in Paphos he picked it up for me. It is bigger than we thought but a lovely bit of furniture. It will be a great project for me once our visitors have all gone - I want to change the colour of the wood - the previous owner had touched up the blue with paint that was a different shade and as I said the cushions need sorting - I don't think it needs to be so big and I would quite like to get some water resistant material.
