We were a bit concerned this morning when the phone went pretty early and it was Mum. She is on some new tablets and they had made her feel unwell during the night so she was monitoring her progress to see whether or not she would come up to us today. I know she likes to come and to have a change of scenery but we have to be practical about these things. We are quite a distance from any medical help save for the weekends when Savvas our neighbour is here as he is a GP and I am sure he would help in an emergency. I offered to go down but in the end decided that Mum would let me know mid-morning how she was feeling.
I was thrilled to see that I had a flower beginning to open on my waterlily. It is a lovely buttery yellow colour and there appears to be two or three more healthy looking buds underneath the water. I am so grateful to Nicky for her spotting someone giving these away in Paphos and for finding the woman and getting one for us. I cannot believe how much is has grown in the last few days and now that the top of the water is mainly shaded the quality seems to have stabilised and is quite clear (bearing in mind that the pot is black) and the fish seem to be thriving. I sent Nicky a photograph and she said she would come and see for herself and she and Mark were going to be across the road doing 'stuff'.
I cannot believe that by the time she came, which was not long after I had sent her a photograph, the little flower was fully opened. I am so glad that this is establishing itself - save for Minnie having a drink out of it every now and again it seems to be pretty safe where it is.
Mum did come up. We took the decision that the lunch I had planned was probably a bit too rich under the circumstances and so John and I would have that tomorrow for our tea.
We plumped for good old beans on toast - John and I had cheesy beans on toast - because this is a good standby although not quite the meal we normally have on a Sunday. It was incredibly hot today (although not quite as hot as yesterday) and so Mum and I spent the whole time out at the dining table in the garden where at least there was a bit of a breeze coming through.
John took himself off to watch the FA cup match between Sheffield United and Arsenal. The lockdown break in the football has obviously not served the Mighty Blades well and so the result did not go their way.
Safe to say I was relieved when Mum text to say she had got home safe and sound.
I will leave you with an action shot of my little pond at feeding time - the mosquito fish get very excited by their treat...
