Another celebration for Diana

Miss Minnie looked like she had taken herself off on a Spa Break this morning when we found her snoozing on the bathroom floor with her head snuggled up onto my towels.  I was tempted to ask her if she would like a smoothie for breakfast and if I could fetch her a toweling rob and some slippers!

She, along with the others, has been finding the extended period of hot weather difficult but most of the time she finds herself a cool spot somewhere around the house which is why we get concerned when she goes missing and does not come back when we call her.

We left her to it as I didn't need a shower there and then.  Next door Charlie was to be found asleep laying across the dressing table next to the open window where he could get a bit of breeze - he is half his normal size at the moment partly due to shedding an awful lot of fur (most of which seems to lurk in the conservatory and make an appearance after I have done the hoovering) and partly due to the fact that he isn't eating anything like as much as he does normally.  Mr Boo seems ok but I am a little concerned as I felt a funny lump under his armpit which I think might have been a battle wound.  We will need to keep an eye on it.

We were shooting off to Polemi this morning because we had seen a TV unit advertised in the Second Chance shop there.  It was just the sort of thing we wanted for the TV in the Do-Jo and I had asked them to put it back for us.

The shop has moved from its previous location and is now in bigger premises which were previously occupied by a Charity shop which has itself moved into bigger premises.  The buildings next door are fascinating and we particularly liked the ancient land rover currently being used as a woodstore.

This is the unit which we bought which is a heavy solid piece of furniture and within about 10 minutes of putting it in place it got the seal of approval from Charlie who made himself at home on the bottom shelf.   I managed to catch him snoozing just at the moment a magnificent wild cat appeared on the screen.

This evening we were out with Di and Rob and Les and Clare to celebrate Di's 60th birthday.  She had chosen to go to Finnikas in Polis which is about the closest thing to fine-dining we have found in a while.  It is definitely the place we would go for very special occasions, although we did feel slightly overdressed in our best bibs and tuckers as Rob, Les and Clare all wore shorts.  John took me here for my 60th which was just a couple of weeks before the island went into lockdown and we had a fabulous meal so it was really great to see it open again.

Here is an idea of the sort of food we had to eat last night.  I didn't get a chance to photograph everyone's meal but this does at least give you a 'flavour' of what is on offer and how it is presented.  John had organised for Tassos our taxi guy to pick us up from and drop us back to the Droushia Heights in his mini bus.  It was a lovely evening - I thoroughly enjoyed my food although I did struggle to eat all of my slow cooked belly pork with mashed potato (bottom right).

Back in Droushia we managed to negotiate our way up to the centre and decided to have a nightcap (or two) and opted for Stathmos as Marios' Bar was rocking with the young lads of Droushia, Inea and neighbouring villages whereas Bambos had a nice group of ladies from Limassol just completing their evening meal.

We had a couple of drinks outside before wending our way back home.  All was going swimmingly as Clare and Les went up the hill and Di, Rob, John and I went down to the hill and avoided all the trip hazards left behind by the men working on the road and then on the stretch of road which leads down from the Cemetery Di caught her toe on a rough bit of road and fell heavily on her knees.  She got a nasty graze on one but also turned her ankle over which was a sad end to what had been a lovely evening.
