We walk to Lara

So today being Tuesday the Girlies walk, except that unfortunately Belinda wasn't able to come because she was working.  After Nicky and my triumph with the descent to Lara last Thursday Rachel was determined to do it and we were happy to do it again but when we woke the weather was exceptionally iffy to say the least - John kept going up onto the roof terrace and looking towards the coast and declaring "It's brightening up!!"

We set off full of positivity and as we ventured further down towards the coast the weather did start to improve after about three or four spots of rain which was all that we got.  We know that the walk is only about 11.5Km but when you are at the highest point by the Radio Mast looking down down down to Lara Bay it looks a blooming long way!!!

It was all worth it when we got to one particular brow of a hill and came over the top and could see the whole of Lara Bay spread out before us and Rachel just said "WOW!" because it really is WOW and we felt so lucky to be able to get out in the countryside taking in amazing views and feeling safe and a million miles away from all the Covid shit that is happening around us.  Poor Rachel and her family are struggling as their businesses keep being shut down when the restrictions are tightened.  She may have had an inkling that things were going to get worse so this was a morning to get away from it all.

Here we are - the Three Amigas at the point when we rang John to set off in Kenny to come and pick us up.  This is at about the 9Km mark but we now realise we could have left it a little longer as he still managed to beat us to the taverna.  Actually that last bit that we walk from the main road to Taverna is only about half a kilometer and seems like the longest stretch of all!!

The sun was shining when we got to the beach and the water was a fabulous shade of blue so I was determined to go in but it was very rough - it wasn't as cold as you might have thought from the photographs but John kept insisting that I walk in further and then let a big wave carry me back to the shore - the only trouble was that the big wave I chose engulfed me completely, swept me off my feet and shot salty water up my nose, in my ears and eyes.

Thank god for the wobbly coffee that John brought to warm me up!!!
