Day two of this new lockdown and the weather is looking like it is going to be hot hot hot. I had arranged to walk with Nicky starting from our house and keeping on roads. We started off walking through the village - the house above is the house which belongs to Georgia Agyropoulos's family and I know they are desperate to get out again this summer from South Africa - her Mum Maria has asked me if I think they will get here - to be honest I really don't know what to tell them at the moment.
It is quite a nice walk which skirts the edges of the village but at the beginning, after we had walked down past the Spa and hung a left below Aunty Friday's house there is an absolute bastard of a long steep hill. It is really the only one on this walk but the first time I tackled it with Liselotte and John I had a complete sense of humour failure and I swore I would never ever do it again and today I was proving myself wrong. I did warn Nicky and we decided to do it in bite-sized manageable chunks.
We had just got to the top and were getting our breath back when we noticed a very very large flat back lorry carrying loads of what looked like bags of cement trying to negotiate its way around a narrow and steep corner just above us. In front was a truck which was 'bouncing' its way down the road trying to flatten out a massive bit of concrete and tarmac which had been recently churned up - the truck turned out to be driven by Soteris who engaged us in conversation whilst continuing to 'bounce' the concrete/tarmac trying to smooth the way for the lorry. Soteris just about made it and the lorry just about made it by the skin of its teeth with Nicky and I looking on in amazement.
Even though we were so close to the village the views were pretty spectacular as we got mountains and seas and at every opportunity we grabbed the shade from a tree as the temperatures began to soar. Fortunately though we had left at 8.00am and the walk was only about 8km so we were back before it got really hot.
On my return I set about grooming Charlie - we keep finding lumps of his fur all over the place - he has so much of it that he struggles and we think he might have been poorly last week as the result of a fur ball. This was the result of a quick brush this morning - he loves it - for a while and then he gets fed up and tries to bite the hand that brushes him.
John has his vaccination tomorrow morning so we opted for a quiet evening - with an episode of the latest series of Line of Duty which we love. Our supper tonight was using the duck which Mum had bought us from Lidl the other week. It had gone straight in the freezer so we weren't sure if it was cooked or not. It was cooked and only needed pan frying to crisp up the skin and heat it through. It was served with a simple salad and some of our favourite Thai roast potatoes - the remainder of the sauce for the potatoes going on the duck - it was absolutely delicious.
