Today was an important day - John was off to get his vaccination - I drove him - just as well as there was quite a queue outside and cars everywhere but I dropped him off and managed to find a spot just outside the hospital in Polis parking by the telephone box/bus stop. I noticed that there was an interesting sign on the side of the bus stop which was celebrating Polis Chrysochous Municipality 1882 this is because apparently Polis was established in 1882 - The Town's full name means “the town of gold” because of the nearby copper and gold mines.
Above the bus stop there is a glorious tree - currently full of white blossom and smelling divine - on close inspection it appears to be a white Wisteria. The sign on the bus stop and the tree provided me with an interesting interlude whilst I was waiting for John to reappear having had his jab which he did in due course and said apart from the fact it was a bit chaotic queuing and waiting all went well and he felt fine which is good because he really doesn't like needles.
The remainder of our day was spent at home getting the house ready for summer. The temperatures are rising and there doesn't look to be any dip in them for the foreseeable future. Our first job was to take down the winter curtains and get them cleaned and replace them with the lightweight voiles. We didn't have them up last year relying solely on the film that we had fitted to the windows but we know that at night if the lights are on indoors there is still the possibility of someone from outside being able to make us out inside but with the voiles this is doubly difficult and we have them so we just as well use them - the only trouble was that initially we couldn't find them!!!
Eventually we tracked them down in the pump house and halleluiah they had not been invaded by a family of mice unlike our expensive duvets the other year!!! They smelt a bit like they had been stored in a pump house for a couple of years (which they had) so they went out for a blow before John went through the arduous job of getting his large hands into the small gap where the curtain hooks are located. We had marked up the winter cushions so we knew where they were located in terms of by the kitchen or by the bedroom or in the middle but for some reason had not done the same on the voiles so it was a bit like the Krypton Factor for a while!!!
The next step was to take up all the rugs which we don't use in the Summer and wash the ones which will fit into the washing machine and deep hoover those that can't. It was a glorious day for getting the rugs washed and dry and once up I set about giving the tiled floor of the conservatory a really good clean and mop. We are planning on moving the furniture round once we move the TV outside into the Dojo but it is still a bit damp overnight for doing that.
Our final job for the day was to look at the sign which we had made for the entrance into the estate and which Tassos, in his enthusiasm, had wrecked with his digger.
