After a hot and restless night we managed to oversleep and got up just minutes before Savvas arrived to look to see whether or not we could install an air-conditioning unit in the spare bedroom. We have resisted this for 10 years because they look ugly inside and out but we have all struggled this year and now the time has come. We are hoping that one unit in the spare bedroom will cool down the whole bedroom building and in the winter we can use it as a heater. I think it is fair to say that Savvas is a dour man who tuts a lot but is actually quite nice. We had hoped that the ducts, originally installed when the houses were built, to take the wiring from aircon units would be suitable because then all the wiring would be hidden. Sadly this was not the case and for a while it seemed as though we would not be able to put in a unit without all the wiring being on show or tucked behind naff plastic conduit. Then the menfolk came up with an idea which meant John had to channel out behind the wood paneling and join up with the internal plastic ducting.
This took longer than it should have done because the plastic ducting had not been installed vertically but at a jaunty angle further away from the socket making it a bigger job and it was a job that needed to be done today because the unit is being fitted on Monday.
We worked through the day and replaced the single socket with a four way (thanks to Savvas who had one loafing on his van) replaced and painted the paneling sections around the socket and left a draw string in for the guys when they come on Monday. It might have been hot and sticky work but we got there in the end and it is a much tidier job than it might have been and the extra sockets will come in handy.
We had a second visit from the fridge repair man. He was bringing some fans to try and replace the one in the freezer which he thinks isn't working properly so the cold air is not being pushed up through the vents in the back of the fridge section.
