After all the excitement of this week it was a reasonably quiet weekend for us and so I am lumping together both Saturday and Sunday. There is a tangible change to the weather and we have been given weather warnings for severe thunderstorms. They experienced some in Nicosia which led to flash flooding - this doesn't come as much of a surprise because we do not have much by way of drainage here so after a long try period if we get heavy rain all the shit accumulates into whatever drains there are and the water then has nowhere to go. Anyway we had a lot of bubbling white clouds coming up from over the top of the mountains at Lysos and then a second layer of cloud moving across from Lara. Now, late on Sunday night it is cooler but we have had no rain and so I had to water this evening but I have reduced watering the pots to every other day.
I have been looking for a hardy climbing plant to cover the trellis out the front. The clematis has been a picture but now it has finished flowering it needs to be cut back and that leaves that area bare. The blue plumbago is a bit spindly and I think it doesn't get enough sun there to flower profusely. I ordered some seeds from Ebay for something called a Chocolate Vine Akebia Quinata and for a bush Morning Glory Ipomoea Carnea - both have to be treated in the same way. The seed needs to be scarified then soaked in water for 24 hours then planted in a small pot and left in the fridge. This is the Ipomoea and I had forgotten all about it but was thrilled to see that the one seed I had planted had put in an appearance. Fingers crossed this will survive.
For most of Saturday I worked on cleaning my microwave which looked like the black hole of Calcutta inside. Something sticky had made a bid for freedom and spot welded itself to the turntable and, at the same time, spluttered and spat all over the roof. It took me a while but eventually I got it to a state that I was happy with - good job as it would be needed Sunday for the lunch I was doing for Mum.
Last night we went over to inspect the work in progress which is the glassing in of the space between Lakis and Argy's two buildings - the workmen have eventually pulled their fingers out and pitched up and started to get on with things. The complexity of this job should not be underestimated as the glass will cover the ground and the first floor gap with all the different roof levels. For the first time we can begin to visualise just how fabulous this is going to look and although this will be ultra modern it isn't in your face and you will still be able to see the original features that they have retained like their balcony and outside steps which will soon be inside.
