These are a few of my favourite things...

It is hot and sticky and I am feeling it - not helped by some indifferent sleep thanks to the heat, bitey things and the cats!  I have been pushed to get something together for this week's art challenge which is anything which is inspired by the song "My Favourite Things" from the Sound of Music.  The one above is Warm Woolen Mittens!

We didn't really do very much today save for a quick trip down to Polis to do our shopping and I took my life into my hands to negotiate the T Junction where the bus depot is to get a bus timetable.

John and I have always said we are going to try out the bus system here and the other night when I was talking to Belinda she said she wanted to give it a go to see what is available because currently she doesn't drive.  There appear to be two buses a day which leave from Polis to go to the bus station in Paphos, and two which return so I have suggested that at some point we should take one of those and go to the Old Town and grab some lunch.  This may be something to do when it is a little less hot and sticky but at least the buses are air-conditioned!!  If we can master this then who knows we could make it a regular thing to go visit somewhere using the intercity service.

Anyway I managed to get two timetables without being mown down by the chaotic traffic.  The bus station office is in just about the most dangerous place it can be - I don't know why they don't move it into the old cafe which is across the road and next to the large carpark where some of the buses sit in readiness to depart.  If they did then travellers could sit in there and have a drink or something whilst they were waiting to travel - currently it is nothing short of an exercise in taking your lives into your hands!

We stopped to get some petrol at the new station which is the opposite side of the road to the Gravity Road Diner and which is owned by Christos from the village.  We paid for our petrol and Christos nipped into the shop and came back with a huge bag of his own fresh plums which are super tasty and super juicy.  Generally I would expect to come back from a garage with a glass and not fresh fruit!

Today was the opening ceremony for the delayed 2020 Olympics being held in Japan.  We caught some of the broadcast which was absolutely stunning and the final bit where Naomi Osaka lit the bowl was pretty spectacular.  This will now add a whole range of sports for us to watch over the next few weeks.

On the subject of sport I am utterly hooked on The Hundred cricket competition currently being shown on the TV which makes cricket about as exciting as it could ever be and looks like it is introducing a whole new generation to a sport which has often been considered completely unexciting.  This is not the case - both the men and the women are keeping us hooked.

We had a little visitor this evening.  Whilst searching for the cats I came across this little fella scuttling along.  He rolled himself into a ball for safety and allowed me to carry him to somewhere where he would (a) not get runover and (b) untroubled by the cats.

I love the little leggy long-eared hedgehogs we get over here.  If we could find two I would put them together in the garden but one on its own would be lonely - had Liselotte not been busy with her visitors I would have phone her to come and get him and put him in her woodland area where she has put the special hedgehog house that John made for her.

We actually see these quite often running around near our wood store so maybe another time I can get hold of her so that the pricklepig can move upmarket from our ropey old woodstore to a five star house in a safe environment!!!

Not much else to report on today - we stayed up to watch the end of the men's Hundred cricket because it was so exciting and hopefully that will mean I get a better night's sleep.
