We manage to go Walking

The weather has changed and it is much cooler in the mornings and evenings so we decided to get up and do a bit of a walk this and we were glad that we did because after a break of a week or so it was hard going come the end and in the back of my mind I have Liselotte's return nagging at me because she will be straight into a lengthy hike with lots of ascent and I will be running along behind her!!!

We decided to keep it local so walked out of Droushia and down through the short cut into Inea which takes us past the beautiful church and the old weaving museum and then straight down the cobbled high street heading out towards the Radar at the army barracks - from there we would hang a right and walk back to Droushia.

Over the last couple of weeks the electricity board has been around making sure that the overhead cables are free from trees - their approach is not really very aesthetically pleasing as they simple hack the tops of the trees and leave them with all the debris underneath or, where the branches have not quite been separated from the trunk, just hanging down.  No doubt the trees will recover but it really doesn't look nice.

On the return part just after we had turned near the bandstand we could see a track we had looked for earlier in the year but could not find and so we decided to give it a go this time.  This added another kilometer or so to the walk but in return we got some lovely views although there was a heat haze or humidity hanging around down on the coast so the sea was hard to make out.

We decided to walk home going through the village, checking the post and the cemetery en route.  This is Bambos's outside space at O Stathmos which is looking fresh and clean and welcoming ready for any visitors that there are in the village to sit down and eat and or drink.  There seems to be a few around so hopefully our local eateries will get the benefit.

This is the view looking up the hill with the coffee shop on the right and the lovely Sappho Manor on the left.  The road is now completed and the aim was for it to make the village look more traditional.  I know the jury is out on whether it is a good job or not and I know you get a bit of a bone-shaking ride as you go through but personally we like it.

Last stop was the Cemetery - this photograph is taken from a different angle as we walked up the side by the main entrance and over to where the little gates are to take the picture.  By this time it was beginning to get pretty hot and we were glad to be making our way back home to grab a welcome cold drink and dip in the pool.

John was out with the DOGS (Droushia Old Gits Society) this afternoon - having a man catch-up at the Gin Bar where Savvas now has an even bigger selection of bottled ales for them to sample although Marky-Mark is being good so keeping an eye on his liquid and solid intake because of diabetes.   That meant that I dropped John and the Bobster off, Mark joined them later and because he was driving brought them home.  I had hoped to catch up with Di but forgot she meets up with the girlies she does fitness with so I just stayed at home until John returned.  Apparently, according to Argy, more people came to see the house next door although I never heard a thing!
