The weather has changed and when we got up this morning it looked like rain - it was black overhead and the clouds were coming from the direction of Lara Bay which generally means unsettled and stormy. I was going down to Mums and it was very hot and humid down there - very tropical - it reminded me of holidays in Thailand!
My first task of the day was to sort out Mum's medication with her so that both she and I know what is what as they often given an alternatively named drug to the one she is used to and as she takes a cocktail morning, noon, evening and night time it is easy to get confused. Eventually we ended up with a nice colour coded table with entries for each of the drugs she is to take and the old and new names, the dosage, what they are for and even the colour - Dad would have been so proud!!!! As I pointed out to Mum if she were to be taken ill I would probably be the first person contacted and asked about what tablets she takes. I am now fully up to date until the next time she collects a prescription and they make changes but I have told her to ask when she goes if there is anything she needs to know that might be different.
We went for lunch - after a bit of thought I suggested St Georgios by St George's Church because she used to go and hadn't been for ages because she said they had changed the menu and it wasn't to her liking. The thing is it is nearby and does a variety of foods so I thought we should give it a go.
I thought I was ordering something light - I can't remember what this was described as but I think it was on the light bites menu and was €7.50 so I didn't expect anything like the huge platter that arrived!!! It was actually really delicious. There were two medium sized Greek Pittas with a slavering of tahini with belly pork slices and fried eggs with a smattering of tomato passata on top with a green salad and some really really naughty triple fried chips. I made a reasonable attempt at it!!!! Mum had a ham and cheese triple decker toastie which also came with chips and we washed it down with a bottle of water. The garden setting was lovely with shade and a cool breeze and backed onto the old Church (which used to be in splendid isolation when Mum and Dad first moved here but is now gradually being swallowed up by all the building around it). The staff were extremely pleasant and I said to mum it was the sort of place she should frequent because they seemed to have some regulars come in who they made a fuss of. I think just maybe this trip changed her opinion of the place so I hope she will add it to her list of eateries when she goes out.
This evening we had arranged to meet up with Julia and Alex and Julia's sister Ali and her husband. Julie and Alex are moving back to the UK having sold Alex's family home in the village (subject to contract). When they were stuck in the UK we had paid their water bill for them and when we took the invoice round they said that before they left (which is in just over a week's time) they would like to get together and so that is what we did.
