Our Pearl Wedding Anniversary

30 years ago today in Gretna Green John and I got married - it was a small affair - we had seven other people there with us, Mum and Dad, Janet and Hadge, Uncle Gordon and Aunty Margaret and Andy Parkinson.  With such a select group in attendance we know that few people will actually remember the date and to be fair we aren't big on wedding anniversaries but this milestone needed to be marked in some way.  What we had planned sadly couldn't take place because friends and family from the UK could not be with us and there are still restrictions as to how many people can gather at your home.

John and I tidied up the house because we had asked a few friends and neighbours to pop in for a drink this evening (numbers well within the restriction of 20) and then we packed up a picnic and headed off for the picnic site we had come across near the reservoir of Agia Marina where there was a shrine to a transgender saint.  We got there to find that there was a family with four kids running around which is not my idea of peace and quiet but they were packing up and so after about five minutes they left and we had the place to ourselves.  Below is a bit of video so you can see what it was like...

We packed up and headed back home stopping off to have a swim in the sea which, as it happens, is our first this year.  We chose a spot near the Forestry at Yialyia where there is a massive expanse of beach which is protected because it is where the turtles have their nests to there are no dogs allowed and no umbrellas etc to be poked into the beach.  This meant we had a quick change and a quick swim.  We were surprised to find that in the sea is was just soft sand so no issues getting in or out slipping and stubbing your toes!!

We had a quiet afternoon - I had asked Ali who cooked for my 60th to prepare some finger food because I really didn't want that hassle when it has been so hot and she delivered that mid afternoon which resulted in a right old shuffle around with my fridges so we could keep it cool.  Although not the celebration we had anticipated originally, we had a nice evening, and were glad we had marked the occasion in some way - I will report on it tomorrow.
