A sublime takeaway

We got round to potting up the Hibiscus that Lakis and Argy gave us and it is most definitely liking being in its new home as it is rewarding us with continuous flowers.  I hope it survives the winter - the first ones I had did not but last year I got some apricot coloured ones from Marinos's and they did survive the winter.

Today is Saturday, John got up early to go down to Polis to do the recycling and to try and get some bits and pieces for jobs we had earmarked before the island closes down for its annual holibobs.  This tradition continues even now into the 21st century and after all the shutdowns of covid.  To be fair though it is exceptionally hot and I am guessing historically this is why everything shut down at this time of year.

We were uncertain as to whether we would get a visit from Simon, Melanie, Jasmine and Frances today or tomorrow so were staying around the house just in case - as it turned out they arranged to come tomorrow and to stay long enough for the girls to see Nanny Mo.

Because of this I wanted to make sure that I had everything in hand for our meal tomorrow - we had decided to have one of Mum's favourites Lamb Fillet although I had got the meat from Shuks rather than from Kolios.

I decided that I would get all the veg ready and the mint gravy and then took the meat and removed any sinew or fat before gently marinading it in yoghurt overnight to ensure it was as tender as possible.  This is not a cheap cut of meat but there is very little waste and it is from New Zealand so it is lamb as I would know it.

I was being spoilt tonight as we had decided to treat ourselves to a takeaway from the Farmyard as we haven't had one for a while and we were both really looking forward to it.

I think it is fair to say that in this extreme heat the pool has been our salvation.  We have been leaving the cover off overnight because the water has been getting too warm and this buggers up the chemical levels and when it gets that warm it is no longer refreshing - we have it ticking along at about 30 degrees which is perfect.

John was watching the football (Premier League has resumed this weekend) when I went off to pick up our supper.  You can see how dry and brown it is everywhere and at 6.00pm the sun was still absolutely scorching.  It was a bit busier on the roads, it being a bank holiday weekend here but I was able to park up easily and ventured in with my Safe Pass and managed to grab a quick chat with Rachel before heading back home with our food.

OMG is was exceptional.  We had Satay and Spring Rolls to start and then John had Crispy Chilli Beef and I had the Honey Chicken with extra Chilli which the chefs have got weighed off to an absolute T.  We only ate half the order and have the other half earmarked for Monday so it works out at good value for money.
