JJ&S's holiday is now fast to an end. Today was their last full day which they were having 'at leisure' and then we were all going for a meal at Finikas in Polis. For many reasons it has not been the best of holidays but we have tried to make it as good as we could. This year we found that their accommodation was up for sale and to be honest it was looking tired and unloved and, to be frank, not as clean and up together as it has been in previous years. They want to come again next year but wanted us to look out for somewhere new. Stan had seen The Corner House in Droushia advertised and thought it looked nice so John and I had contacted the owners to see if there was anyone in staying otherwise could we go have a look. They said that they were actually there cleaning up and we could go lunchtime to meet them.
We were made very welcome by Giorgos and Nicki who let us have a good nosey around on our own and then we sat in their courtyard garden chatting about the village. We thought the accommodation would be absolutely ideal but it is not our decision so we got as much information together as possible - including our Drouseians rental price and sent the information to JJ&S having checked out flight availability and costs.
Back at home we had a visitor - a Death's Head Hawk Moth caterpillar. It was walking along the new tiling outside the back door. If you pick one of these up they squirm and are pure muscle - quite weird to touch. I wanted to make sure it was out of the way of the cats and any magpies so picked it up and moved it into a shaded area in the garden so it could find a safe place to continue on its journey.
We were picked up by Stan this evening and taken to Finikas in Polis. Stan and John took Kenny back to Polis Gardens and walked back to the restaurant. Jackie and Janet were supping a dubious white wine in Saddles which they blamed for their hangovers the next day. We had a lovely meal - in spite of John's starter being forgotten but we weren't in any rush. It's hard to believe that three weeks are nearly up! Anyway over our meal decisions were made about their holiday next year. Fingers crossed there will be no repeat of Covid to prevent them coming once again.
We taxi'd home - with a taxi driver who used to deliver wood to our house when he worked at the Wood Yard so there was no issue trying to explain where we lived.
All in all a very successful day.
