Proper Poorly Peeps

“The best laid schemes o' mice an' men. Gang aft a-gley”. Or to translate, the best laid plans of mice and men can still go wrong.

And that is what is happening with us at the moment.  John's Mum, Jackie and Stan arrived a week ago and I was till going up and down to Mum's regularly and staying over which meant that I wasn't around much to see them and then on Thursday Mum got released from the care of the Dressings Unit in Paphos Hospital and then Friday we held a wake for Jackie's Mum.  That evening Stan became ill and the following morning John joined suit.  They both have 'strep' throat and to quote John is is like swallowing razer blades and Stan says he has had some sore throats in his time but nothing compared to this.  Trips to the doctor would need to wait until Monday it being the weekend unless we went to A&E but both men decided to see how it would progress.

I shot off down to find whichever Chemist was going to be open in search of something to help soothe.  Why is it that when you are in a hurry everything conspires to be against you?  Today I had to wait for quite possibly the biggest herd of goats to cross my path as I got down near the Museum in Droushia.  The chemist that was open turned out to be the little one going towards the square opposite the Electricity Board and down a bit.  I managed to get some pretty strong lozenge things for strep throat and stocked up with Halls and paracetemol and Snips and went off to deliver to Stan and get an update on how he was feeling.  I have to say he looked really poorly and I felt awful that this was going to severely impact on their holiday.  We had planned to meet up at Porto Antico today and have lunch with Mum and we had to cancel - there was no way we could go even if we had wanted to because John and Stan will be contagious until they have had 24-48 hours with antibiotics.  I felt awful canceling Mum but Lilian saved the day inviting Mum to join her and her guests for the day.

All our plans for the next few days are on hold.  We are ok if we keep in our little bubble so if Stan feels well enough we can either go down and spend time in Polis or preferably because the weather is fresher they can come up and spend time here but apart from that we won't be doing anything else.  Having thought we would be eating out I didn't have anything planned for Sunday Lunch but John couldn't eat anything anyway so we had some scrambled egg with cheese as it was soft, tasty and slipped down!

We did nothing else for the rest of the day save binge watch episodes from Season 2 of Ted Lasso which we absolutely love and watch the Ryder Cup with the whoop whooping of the vulgar American crowds.

For a while John felt a bit better but as the day went on he seemed to have a real dip - to be fair he is next to never ill although this is the second time he has had this sort of throat problem.
