I had some incredibly sad news today which overshadowed the whole day.
A few years' ago I returned to the UK for a school reunion - it was not just any old reunion - it was 40 years since we had left school. I had been lucky enough to pass my 11 Plus exam and was sent to an independent girl's Grammar school - Bruton School for Girls aka Sunny Hill. There were boarders and day girls - I was a day girl. The boarders came from all round the world - often because their families were in the forces. We maybe didn't appreciate how lucky we were at the time but the school was set in the most beautiful grounds. That reunion was really special - I reconnected with so many girls and have remained in contact with quite a few especially during lockdown when several joined my Droushia Lockdown Art and Photographic Challenge (which is still operational).
It was a brilliant weekend - we will always remember where we were when Harry married Megan because we were stuffing our faces in the school canteen at the time! Those formative years and the shared experiences forged friendships which have lasted and lasted. So I was devastated to learn that my friend Suzanne's partner had passed away having fallen whilst out running. Covid and other circumstances had meant they had been separated for some time but were due to be reunited next week. I cannot begin to imagine her devastation. Life can be so very cruel and if nothing else it puts so much into perspective. We really should live for today because we none of us have any idea what is round the corner.
My thoughts are with everyone who has been affected by this very sad news.
