Eventually a more positive day

It was a stressful morning.  I had been up several times during the night with Minnie as we are feeding her on demand to try and build her back up.  She has improved but still looks pitifully thin and seems to cry all the time.  We do not think she is in pain because when she will allow, we can cuddle her and rub her tummy and she doesn't seem unhappy about it.  We are not out of the woods yet but at least I do not dread waking up and finding that she has passed away during the night.

I had been quite desperate to get my hair trimmed and Lumi was able to do it today and we were incorporating that with (a) going to the bank to get the money to purchase our new car and (b) taking Mum to the Doctors to discuss the recent change in her medication.  The photograph is of the pool at the complex where Lumi lives which looked really inviting today.

At the bank there was a horrendous queue so we decided we couldn't wait otherwise we would be late for Mum so we went back to the Pug which was parked in Sklavenitis car park.  We very nearly got someone reverse into it.  Some old Cypriot guy in an ancient Mercedes was totally unaware of where our car was when he slammed his into reverse and thereafter nearly slammed into us - that would have been just our luck.  In fact John had to avoid two near misses today.

I got to Mum's on time and took her to Dr Mala's.  I have to say the doctor was more than happy that I went in with Mum and explained that I thought the latest medication she had prescribed for Mum's insomnia had caused Mum to be confused, forgetful, unsteady on her feet and falling to sleep at the drop of a hat.  She agreed that these were side effects connected with the drug and that Mum should stop it immediately and she recommended a natural remedy which we went to get immediately.  You cannot get supplements and vitamins on the National Health system here which is why they were only recommended and not prescribed.  Anyway Mum seemed happy and we went through her medication and the new routine before we left her.  She is awaiting the arrival of my sister later today although Kaye will be being transferred to her accommodation and rather a good job too as her flight was severely delayed and she did not arrive until the early hours of Saturday morning.

After my haircut we went to the Nissan dealers to go and exchange our old Pug and a shedload of cash for a four year old top of the range Qashqai which I think was as close to what John had hoped to purchase as we could wish for.  It had every bell and whistle you could imagine and is a beautiful shade of grey.  To be fair the old Pug didn't look too bad up against it and someone will grab themselves a bargain if they purchase it.  The Pug has done us well for eight years and is now fourteen years old so John thought it was time for a change - we have decided to keep dear old Kenny as a mobile wheelbarrow and run it into the ground.  It was a bit nail biting driving home avoiding all the plonkers that were on the road on a Friday afternoon particularly as we couldn't decided if it was a bell or a whistle we needed!!!  I am taking the car manual to bed with me tonight as my homework.

I hadn't really thought about what we were having for supper this evening.  When we got back to Droushia with the new car we had a quick catch up with Lakis and Argy and thanked them for the heads up about the Nissan garage and for changing their car which we like very much (it is a Nissan Juke) and that spurred us on to change ours.

We had something different for our supper as I decided to make Shakshuka with a salad.  I didn't even know if John liked Shakshuka!  Shakshuka is baked eggs and I had found a recipe which inluded Chorizo and although the cupboard was pretty bare I had what was required and it turned out to be absolutely delicious and something I will certainly make again.

I had everything crossed for a good night's sleep because we were both exhausted after what had been a topsy turvy week for the two of us.  I am glad John got the car he thought we deserved and it is lovely - I shall just feel better when I have given it a drive.  I just didn't feel like it today - by the time we got back from Paphos I had a thumping headache so didn't think it was the best time to drive a new car.
