I then got a text from Gail across the road asking if I would like some fresh veg as she had been given far too much from a friend. Never one to turn this sort of thing down I said yes although if I am honest aubergine is neither mine nor John's favourite but it didn't matter because I could give some to Argy.
So I accepted and invited Gail and Pete to come over for a cup of tea and a piece of my non sticky, sticky toffee pudding cake. We haven't really seen them since they came over at the beginning of the month so it was good to have an opportunity to catch up. They are really nice and a great addition to the community that is building here.
They stayed for a couple of hours which was great for us and, because Gail has a camera which keeps an eye on the dogs, great for her and Pete because it meant they could both be away from Dot and Hector and know that they weren't being a nuisance.
It was whilst Gail and Pete were with us that we had a text from Lakis to say that Argy's brother and his wife had arrived. So when G&P went home we decided that we would go over and spend some time with Lakis and Argy in a show of solidarity and we were amazed when Lakis suggested walking into the village to go and check the post as they are waiting for some important paperwork from the Electricity Board and that we should have a drink whilst we were there.
Although neither Argy or I were particularly dressed for a night out we didn't complain and it was lovely sat in the garden of Finnikas chatting and having a drink - or two!!! We are so lucky to have a choice of places to go in the village and all within walking distance and where they know us - if just feels so nice and friendly.
To mark what would have been his 21st birthday the family had organised for blood donations to be taken at the family home. Sadly I was unable to give because of my recent vaccination but John went and after a few doubtful blood pressure reading he was declared fit and healthy enough and did it.
Argy and Lakis were waiting outside chatting with the family only to find out that they are related in some way! Anyway we reckon John was one of the few if not the only Brit to donate and the family were so grateful. It is a small thing to do but one which has a massive impact.
I sat talking to the doctor who was bonkers but very nice! The ladies working for the blood donation unit recognised me from previous donations so that was nice.
We made our way back home having had a really unexpectedly nice evening. The village is such a great place at times like this.
