Today did not start well because after having washed the towels from Laura and Mark's visit I put in the bedding and the washing machine said NO and resolutely refused to budge so we will have to get Keith in as soon as possible to get it mended if possible or I will have to get a new one which I could do without.
The weather forecast for today was to be windy and we had planned a trip to the Last Castle which is generally quite breezy on a good day so we were a bit worried that it wouldn't be that pleasant. We were lucky because although it was windy it was a warm wind.
We had been allocated a seaview table at the far end and had pre-ordered fish for Stan and Jackie, beans for me and pork for John and his Mum. Because of the fish we had a longer wait than usual because it is cooked fresh on your arrival.
We had an absolutely fabulous meal. The fish was amazing and that addition means that there is now something for everyone and the cost was very reasonable too. We also managed to keep free from any hornet activity although a small ant had the audacity to put in an appearance on the table much to John's Mum's consternation.
After our meal we made our way down to St George's - the blustery weather made it impossible to see whether the turtles were there but it was a nice walk along the harbour side and we decided we would go for an icecream and then pay to go in to the antiquities site opposite the church
It is only a couple of Euros to go in - less if you are an OAP and there is quite an interesting array of ruins for you to explore with the remains of what would have been quite impressive mosaics. It was really hot as we were wandering around so we decided to make our way across the road and down to the necropolis which you can see from the harbour if you are looking up to the Taverna.
It is quite a scramble down to the caves, one which Jacky and Janet did not undertake and it was probably wise bearing in mind one has a dodgy ankle and the other a dodgy leg but Stan came and we investigated the ancient burial caves that are there and there are quite a few. You have to marvel at how clever people were in the past when they didn't have the tools or the technology that we do nowadays.
All in all a good day complete with a bit of culture!!!
