More goodbyes

You know that Summer is nearly over when your long term visitors are busy packing up to leave.  Yesterday we said goodbye to Lakis and Argy, tomorrow we will say goodbye to the Crew and Thursday we wave off George and Pam.  We hope that they will all return in 2023 but as this week has taught us the future is not a given and so now more than ever we are living for today.  If we thought the covid age was a strange one post covid is decidedly worse and even more uncertain.

On the Crew's last full day we suggested a trip down to Polis for a bit of shopping and a coffee out - this idea was greeted with much approval.

Yesterday there had been quite an accident on the Droushia/Prodromi Road which ended up being a near miss rather than a tragedy.  Apparently a big truck heading down to the coast had lost its brakes en route.  Shortly before a lady had overtaken the truck and was then shocked to see it hurtling past her as she was approaching a right hand bend.  It would appear that the driver of the truck managed to take evasive action and ended up going straight on up a field before settling sideways on half way up a hill.  No major injuries have been reported thus far.

We made it to Polis safe and sound and did the shopping we wanted in order that the Crew will get something to eat tomorrow before they fly and Stan got another pair of shoes and Jackie and Janet snapped up a couple of nice warm tops in the charity shop for what will be a cold arrival in the early hours of Thursday morning.  We even had time to sit in Coffee Island for a drink and a cake - all very civilised.

We left the Crew to their own devices in the afternoon.  We are all going out this evening for a posh last meal at Finikas in Polis and have even pushed the boat out and booked Tassos and his 10 seater to taxi us down and back.  We had promised to go have a coffee with George and Pam which is what we did.  It was another very hot afternoon so we sat inside where it was cooler but not before John put on an impressive impersonation of a whirling dervish trying to repair one of the brollies which had come a cropper on a windy day!

Our evening was absolutely delightful.  Our kitty system had served us well and we had plenty of money in the purse to ensure a fabulous evening.  Finikas in Polis always makes us feel like we are their most important customers ever - they probably do that with everyone and if they do they do it superbly.
I had promised myself to try something from the menu that I had not tried previously and I succeeded with an octopus starter which was divine and duck main course which was exceptional.  Everyone seemed to really enjoy their food - I am not sure the same can be said about our taxi ride down as the Crew had not experienced a full on taxi ride with Tassos gesticulating with both hands, turning round to speak to John and taking a phone-call all at the same time!!!

I shall leave you with a couple of photographs of our amazing food, the first picture being the octopus starter and the second the squid starter - I am not sure who got the best deal as they were both poli nostimo!

Life is going to seem so very quiet next week but my diet most definitely starts then!!!
